The second woman's pj's would pass for an acceptable outfit for a night out in many a Belfast club!

I'd feel insulted if I was addressed by someone in pajamas when they have perfectly good clothes at home... While I wouldn't insult you personally, gratuiously, I also wouldn't support a ban on insulting you... too touchy/feely!

And thinking on this a bit I am sure it's how I really think about the matter since while I do find PJs acceptable there is clothing I do take offense at seeing, but banning it in any situation... no. There are two many laws and regulations already without adding to the total by a further targeting of deemed good taste.

There's a difference between having a dresscode in place for certain governmental proceedings & a ban on wearing something in public. Under this proposal these people can still be free to wear pjs outside all they want. Just not to these interviews.

I can see the difference between applying for a job/JSA/etc and just nipping down to Spar (i've never been wholly comfortable in 'formal' clothing) but even i'd make the fucking effort to put some daytime clothes on - especially if I was being interviewed for something as serious as welfare!

It's not a matter of touchiness but a ban on pj's isn't too far flung when it comes to attending interviews and signing on. I think I gave reasonable enough arguments, including reversing the role and suggesting that you wouldn't like it if the interviewer was wearing boxer shorts and a vest.

It's only come to the ban because people won't see the common sense and common decency in it, it's going unchecked.

For example, if I was walking along Br*ght*n promenade in swim wear during the summer, or even going in the well-known supermarket up the road near the pier, nobody would mind because it's quite acceptable. However, if I tried that in M*lt*n K*yn*s high street I'd prolly be cautioned by the boys-in-blue and asked if I was taking any prescribed medication (or called "hey bitch" by some macho type dude)...

Yes, compare a place on the sea to a place inland when talking about wearing swimwear when the main reason it is "socially acceptable" in the former is because you are by the sea. Perfect sense.
