I guess it is a bit unfair that subscribers still get surreptitious advertising, when we paid to browse the site ad-free. We get buy links to iTunes and Amazon for all tracks by default, when most of them aren't available to purchase on those sites.
The question is whether a sponsored feature counts as advertising.
Poor sod's are stuck between a rock and a hard place! It's not advertising when it's information. If it doesn't interest you, move on. Some people want/need the announcement to make sense of invitations that may be popping up in their shoutboxes. The use of the header is justified.
I doubt it will be there till whenever 2010. There are bound to be other announcements at some point, or when staff have decided this one has been up there long enough. That's what I would do.
As for subscribers being exempt from advertising - there's a fine line between separating us from what pays the bills and sharing something new with us. Otherwise, how are we to know of new initiatives?

Agreed
Its hardly obtrusive and the fantasy festival is pretty much a last.fm feature even if it does have a sponsored partner. If I wanted to use it I'd be annoyed to be left in the dark because I'm a subscriber.
My guess for the next thing up there.."best of 2009"
