    Notes in Your Library

What do you all think of having a "Notes" section on each individual artist page in your library? This would have been really nice if, for example, I listened to a band a lot but a year later didn't listen to them much. I could write on their page in my library something along the lines of "I used to love these guys a lot, which is why they have such a large playcount. I don't listen to them as much anymore."

Alternatively, you could write about your experiences with a band:
"This band is really good; I love the vocals and guitars. Would recommend to anyone."
"I think these guys sound a lot like [other band]. I wish they would be more original."
"I own all of this band's albums, including rare demo CDs and EPs."
"I've seen this band live twice; the first time was disappointing, but the second time I saw them, they were fantastic."

I think this feature would really add a touch of personality to the Library section and make browsing other users' Libraries much more fun.

  • topical question here, do most people really spend that much time in other users' libraries? personally, i don't.

Maybe I'm one of the few that does, then. :P At the very least, it informs me of new bands and stuff to check out.

  • i'm just curious, i know that not all of use last.fm in the same capacity, for instance, i never listen to the radios... but i'm probably the only one.

i agree that notes would be helpful, for instance if i'm listening to music on shuffle and a song (or artist) comes on that i really like, that i'm not that familiar with, it would be nice to leave myself a note about it. even if the note was just redirected to our own inboxes, it would be a nice feature to have.

I don't listen to the radio, either. It's too limited for me, but I can see why a lot of people love it.

oh wow! Furretsu, this is fantastic! I LOVE this idea. Yeah we can browse other people's libraries to see what they've put but if I had it, I know I'd be filling up the Notes sections with comments, reminders, links to journals (mine, other people's, articles) links to flickr for gig photos, links to online video for concerts. All nice and tidy and in one place and personalised. There's a lot of potential here. Love it! :D

We could have Notes sections to go with our tag radios too, so we can remind ourselves what's in there as well as introduce the collections to others.

The longer you spend here, the more information you accumulate. Notes is good.

Pleeeease Last.fm, please consider it. :)

if you don't have any of your own music (or are too lazy to discover music on your own), or are at work or something, then i can understand the radio.

not really. radios here are the most varied I've ever come across. forget the ones on the main page and go digging.

  • I think this is a cool idea. It would give me more incentive to look through other people's libraries.

I wanted it to be there today. :D

  • Hah, you know what, I've been thinking the same thing :) I've even thought about making a topic about it here in the forum, but I wasn't exactly sure how to word it yet. Thanks for doing that for me ;) your examples are very good, that's exactly what I had in mind as well.

Maybe this could even be available for songs ...?

For me, the library's the most important part of last.fm. If I visit another user's profile, their library's also the thing I check out first.

So yeah, I'd totally love to see this feature implemented!

  • I like this idea, I always look through other's libraries :]

Any more opinions? :) We need to show the Last.fm staff that we'd love something like this.

  • yes, please, make this happen if in any way possible :) i also love digging through people's libraries, and often wonder how and why a particular artist ended up there... i know a lot of people probably wouldn't bother to take the time for it, but it would mean a lot to us who care enough about our musical collections.

    not quite there...

As the "kids these days" like to say: "+1"

Seriously though, I really like this idea. I'm already coming up with lots of things I'd like to do with it, and what I'd put on various artist's pages.

Some of what I've been listening to the past three months (theoretically updates itself every 21 days):
