July 2nd site update

  • July 2nd site update

    Hello!

Earlier this morning we released the latest version of the Last.fm website. Here's what we've been working on for the past couple of weeks...

    • There's already some awesome hardware devices that work with Last.fm, but there's more coming soon. To help people get the most from their new music players we wanted to give them a free subscription for a month, so we've built a voucher system to make that happen. Participating device manufacturers will include a Last.fm voucher in the box with a one-use code to get their subscription – and of course we could use this for other things in the future, like competitions or giveaways. Keep your eyes peeled for the launch of the new hardware...
    • If you've got an Xbox, you might have heard about how Last.fm and Microsoft are working together to bring Last.fm to your Xbox 360. We've been working on our web services to make that happen. This includes a user.getRecentStations method (though it's not available in our public API yet) and making larger images available through our API. Even if you've not got an Xbox 360, third-party developers will be able to use these services when making their apps.
    • Our work on performance optimisation continues. We've shaved down the page load time a little more, so your browsing should feel a little snappier.

We also fixed twelve bugs as part of this release, including people not getting unsubscribed properly when their subscription lapses, IE8 display bugs, tea pages on some users' profiles, missing loved track indicators on album track lists, problems saving events, weirdness in the "8 hours ago"-style timestamps, missing tags with certain sort options, and several others.

See you here in 2 weeks for our next exciting episode,

    Alex.

  • Exciting! -.-

Any luck with _this_ bug yet, Last.fm
(which started occurring after your March power cut) ?

subscription history seems to be divided into real subscriptions and payments done to others.

or that was a part of another update i missed?

We still announce big changes and new features via our twitter account, but we've been announcing these smaller, bi-monthly updates on the Feedback and Ideas forum for a while now. If you want to hear the big things following us on Twitter (and maybe subscribing via RSS to our blog) is enough, but if you want the little details then keep an eye on the forums.

Well spotted - you're right, this was new in this update. You have the wonderful underpangs to thank for those improvements.

Not sure if it's related to this site update but when I share a track, I keep getting the red exclamation mark suggesting it didn't work. But when I check my Sent folder, I see it went through ok. I'm sure it was working better last week.

come on, twitter is exactly the place for a stuff no one else care about :)
but yes, I've subscribed to the forum feed recently - another wave of my last.fm passion :)

  • About the subscription issue, I gave a subscription to a friend of mine, but I gave her a 1 month subscription and it has been 2 months and she is still a subscriber, she didn't pay for any extra month, there seems to be a bug that makes her subscription go on and on, I'm not being charged extra for this right? I'm just worried.

  • RiotGrrrlCS: in that case it would be best if you (or your friend) email support and include the original PayPal receipt, so they can have a look what's going on.
