Last.fm Visual Radio - UI Feedback

  • I like the new radio, but have a few suggestions:

1 - Bring back the Album cover, or have a button for the option to show it
I don't care to see pictures of the artist, I want to see what album I'm playing
2 - Add album info under the Artist-Track info
This is so when I'm listening to John Williams and the track says "Opening Credits", I know to which album (by text, along with the album cover)
3 - The ability to collapse the player down to show no picture at all
4 - Move the "Similar Artists" section back to the side of the player
I know what tracks and stations I've already played, I want to see which artists are like the one I'm playing without having to go full screen or scroll down.
5 - Have a "Ban Artist" or "Ban Album" button.
There are some artists or albums that come up that I don't ever want to hear again. I've wanted this option in the Last.FM Radio for a long time now.

The "Your Library" part is really cool. Keep up the great work, thanks!

  • reconsider associations?

I like the new UI, but I am a little displeased about the way my band is now associated. We have been scraped together with groups who are completely unrelated to us, which is not to their benefit and not to ours if we want to be found on the channel. We play a mixture of progrock, fusion and funk, and we don't see how the last.fm machine could relate us to dancehall, country & western, disco and other styles that we don't play.

We associated the band with artists who play in our style when we signed up. What happened to those associations?

Do you think sth. can be done to cure this?

Yeah the "Your Library" part rules.

  • i love the new player and having the slideshow option, but there should still be an option to show album cover art.

    Yeah!!!

  • LOve it!!! It's Great! :) :) :)... Love the layout, love the links, love the Stats :) :) :)
Agreed, the slideshow is processor intensive, this can be turned off though...but I'm still getting elevated processor use? not sure why this is?
...and yeah! ... would definitely like to see reference to which album the track comes from, be it a graphic or text beneath the player perhaps.
The real-time 'recent tracks' is superb!...works beautifully, still getting a lag though, on to my profile.
In all, Great job!!! NIce One!!!! :D :D :D

  • Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming!

@HodgeStar, love that you've used stats to describe stats! Genius!

We're working hard to offer options soon for visual settings to help reduce CPU load; adding functionality to the Recent Tracks list; album info and art, and much more.

I cant seem to get the multi tag and multi artist stations to load, I select my options but clicking on play produces no reaction.

All the changes look nice though :D

just to add to this, the problem only happens when I have playing in the desktop app enabled.

Love new radio page, it's awesome, but do consider a mini implementation, too.

I really hope that a collapsed/minimized radio playing option gets offered, as someone suggested on page 1. IMHO, that's a lot of stuff to get downloaded to my browser on each and every changed track. Don't get me wrong - I genuinely love the new stuff: the idea, the implementation, etc. - but there's a time and a place and a bandwidth for everything, and sometimes it needs to be simple and small.

And thanks for the ability to combo tags to build stations. I can't wait to try that puppy out.

    Could add a collapse feature?

What are you doing at work, sitting and watching the pictures go by? Minimize your browser, or use the "turn off slideshow" option.

Things I Love about the new player

    * The "Loved" indicator, which tells you if you've loved the song in the past.

    * The "Your Library" section, counting historic artist and track plays. (!!)

    * Combo-tag stations. I just tried one ("broadway" "musicals" "soundtrack") and while it's not perfect, it's a lot closer to what I'm looking for than I usually get. (Now, can you tell me how to ban Andrew Lloyd Weber? ;)

oh yes, you know the part of the visual radio player where it says eg:

    Your Library
You've listened to Shakira 58 times before
and Whenever, Wherever 16 times before.

can you make that "16 times" link to the track history page in my music library instead? that would be awesome.

    http://www.last.fm/listen#pane=recentStationsTab
    * I think it would look better if the line was highlighted in that blue color also when you hovered the X

    http://www.last.fm/listen#pane=tagStationsTab
    * Why aren't there a "more" or "page 2" link? too few personal tag radios are shown now

    http://www.last.fm/listen#pane=multiArtistTab
    * Is it possible to make the scrollbars a bit more fancy? they're not matching the other UI now when they're just browser standard
    * Can we have the option to list 3/6/12 month top artists instead of just top overall artists?

    http://www.last.fm/listen#pane=multiTagTab
    * same here, not so fancy scrollbars
    * what are those suggested tags in the selection menu? top global tags? definitely not my tags

    /
    * A button for those of us who have "play everything in the last.fm player" activated with the option to use the insite player? could just be a small text under the big and shiny play button "(play in browser)" or something like that.. I must go all the way to my settings to test the new player now....
    * why can't the (read more) button expand like on artist pages?
    * All the headers (Events, similar artists, related stations, your library, shout) should be clickable (links)
    * In the "Your recent tracks" box, there should be heart icons for loved tracks, and ban icons for banned tracks (you might just have banned them ^^). if this this is supposed to be there, it doesn't work for me. I have a loved track there, but no heart in front of it
*When you click "Start a new station", the music doesn't stop, so there should be a button where we can go back to the slideshow again
    * If there are no photos to show, there should be a link to the page where we can upload images for that artist (on the slideshow)

    other than that, GREAT!

also, I agree with fmera, please link to the track history in the library

  • the new radio player looks promising, but is not working at all on my admittedly ancient computer (windows 98, firefox 2.0.0.9.).

so, please could you add the option of being able to return to the old radio player, at least until such little problems as "not working at all" have been sorted out.

also, like down2here's idea of a "ban artist" or "ban album" button.

    love alasdair

    xx

  • - Show album art for those who turn off the slide show
-- Slide show almost seems like wasted bandwidth (at least for nonsubscribers)

    - "Share station" is too prominent in the art / slide show area; move outside (maybe add to top right where the controls are and move the controls to the bottom left, next to the volume)

    - Need album info / link

    - Like the Your Library section

    - Havent tried the iPhone or Android versions, but would be good to unify the UI as much as possible across platforms

  • +1 for what _oao said about more artist info and maybe album info..

The crashes have stopped, but the player plays nothing at all.

This! I really don't care for the pictures bit, but very much care for which album the song is from. If there is more than one album, perhaps the slideshow can cycle through all the album art available. Perhaps let this be a switchable option between artist pictures and album covers.

This would be a nice to have.

    Agree 100%.

A few bugs that I found while using Google's Chrome:

    - Tooltip while hovering over people's names in comments section no longer reports their info.
    - User comments section sometimes extends below its designated rectangle, cutting off the bottom comments and hiding the 'See all X shouts' link.
    - If artist tags run longer, they'll get hidden behind 'download track' button.

P.S. I really miss album info and function buttons that deal with albums (like search for album on Amazon).

  • return the simple player, please

I'm coming down on the side of those who want the option of using the simple player. All of the new features are completely useless to me. I just want my library to play, and I can't figure out, among all the new bells and whistles, how to make it do that. I suppose I could spend half an hour figuring out how to get it to do what it was already doing just fine before, but it seems wasteful.

If I log out the site works
When I am logged in I have no content in any station, including my library.

    very frustrating.

Please include "Ban artist" feature to radio.

  • On my browser (Firefox 3 on Mac OS X 10.5.6 pretty decent connection), the title/Share station on top of the images flickers constantly. It's really, really annoying.

Also, ditto on a collapse feature for the visual part of the player. It is not work friendly.
