Is there a general consensus how untitled tracks should be tagged?

  • Is there a general consensus how untitled tracks should be tagged?

I'm always torn what to do about this. Leaving them as simply "Untitled", while true, means that they'd all be scrobbled as the same track, and that's no good. Adding the track number after it is a compromise, but then if that artist has another album with untitled tracks, last.fm will think they're the same tracks.

As such, I'll sometimes tag them as "[album name] [track number]", but this takes away from the fact that the songs are untitled. So, another tagging format I'll sometimes do is something like "Untitled [track number] ([album name])", but that's getting a bit longwinded.

    What does everyone else do?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Each song in Panda Bear's Young Prayer album is titled "[untitled]" so when I listen to it, it looks like I'm listening to the same song nine times and scrobbles as the same track. No fun.

I just kept it that way. I was thinking about making them "[untitled] #" but decided against it.

  • Any other suggestions? It really bothers me; I don't even listen to certain albums because of this.

  • I check discogs and musicbrainz (and if possible the artists own discography).
I try to follow the naming-convention on the albums themselfes. That this might result in one track being called "(untitled)", a second one "Untitled", a third one "[insert roman number]" or "[album title number]" is okay with me. I care less about the general looks of my collection and more about the fact that tracks are tagged as they are named (or not named ;)) by the artist.
