    in-page preview buttons now senseless

    Hi!

How about bringing back the in-page preview play buttons next to the favorite or recently played tracks? I mean those that do not redirect you to the artists page but play back a 30sec snippet of the song in your page.

In the old version, I found those a great and easy way to find new music. When browsing through other people's pages I would shortly play through their recently listened or favorite tracks - and it is that that got me really into last.fm.

Now, with the in-page player it takes up much more time, and honestly:
Those preview buttons make no sense at all ! You can also just click the song title next to them to get redirected to the song's page. They are not usefull at all .

How about making those preview-play-buttons usefull again?

    Thanks!

Oh yeah, I miss this functionnality so much !
I hate being redirected to a new page each time i want to play a song.

    Great - we're two already!

Dear LAST.FM staff, would you eventually consider that request now??

  • I'm pretty sure there's more than two who agree with this. ;) I do, for example. Hell, I don't think anyone actually prefers the way it is now.

Anyway, an explanation would be nice. I suspect it somehow has something to do with legal issues, since that's usually why stuff like this happens...

  • I agree 100%

  • I absolutely agree with everything that has been said in this thread.

U.G.L.Y. tip #33⅓: alpha masks make your pngs blurry. strip 'em if you don't need 'em.
  • I cant imagine

How people without tab-browsing (yeah, IE 6 has still users!) can survive with it.

Actually yeah it wouldnt be such a problem if the pages didnt take for ever to load....
I don't really click any more on these buttons, I think.

The reason these were removed was because of a licensing requirement to display advertisements where tracks are played.

We could only play 30 second previews in-page, but we don't think this is a great solution, as most people want to be able to listen full-length. We could probably support this for subscribers only.

Well, yeah, since subscribers don't see ads anyway. Is this also why you can't listen to a full album from the same page anymore, and instead have to click on each song?

    Thanks for explaining though.

Yep due to licensing you have to click on each song while listening to a full album.

  • Yeah, but I was wondering if it was for the same reason (the ads). Because in that case, subscribers should be able to listen to the songs continuously (since they don't see the ads). Which would be pretty awesome.
