Struttin' sluts all through that whorehoppin' scene.

I don't really understand how not having this feature makes it impossible to invite friends. Email still exists, right? And people are more likely to respond to a personal email than what amounts to a form letter (and looks like spam).

The one thing this feature was good for was finding already-existing profiles for people you know from somewhere else.

  • Any idea when we might see this back again...?

    Steve

  • Last.fm will bring it back when this thread reaches 20 pages, come on guys do your bit keep replying to this thread!

  • last.fm is slowly gaining more momentum, popularity and credibility, especially since pandora and zune social are not available in other countries such as Australia. I think this presents last.fm with a rather nice ricardian rent model of competitive advantage that they should really embrace and take advantage of. I think they really need to bring back the find a friend feature before xbox live supports it natively in their New Xbox Experience on the console it in the next few months. Plus i would really like it enabled so that i can increase its use in my circle of friends. I like how last.fm is supported in plaxo also.

  • why is it so hard to bring such a simple feature back?

  • Don't worry, it'll be back in a couple of years. These guys like to take their time

    Don't read this. Look up.

Well... lets just hope that when it comes it'll be a damn good one, cuz like as many have said, last.fm is a social site. So, inviting/searching for friends should be an important aspect of this site as well methinks.

Exactly! Last.fm is a social network to bring music and people together closer. No friends just removes the social aspect. How bout the staff stop with whatever updates they are currently working on and finish this implementation?

No friends? I think you've seriously misunderstood what feature we're talking about here. Friending still works fine.

@gwalla Since you're always making negative comments with whatever statements I make, I'll clear it up for you. By friends I mean those you make beyond the world wide web. Don't take me wrong, people that I meet online are also friends but I didn't suspect anybody would get all fussy about the two.

I'm not sure what side your on gwalla but I'm just eager for this feature to be released..thats all.

I'm just trying to figure out why people are so desperate for a feature that just emails a form letter. It makes no sense to me.

Of course it makes sense. What makes sense for others doesn't always make sense for everybody, but just because it doesn't make sense for you doesn't mean it is senseless per se.

That said, It is not just a feature that emails a form letter, it is about being able to automatically check if anyone in your email contact list has a last.fm profile without having to search for them individually. Moreover, the option to search by email which used to be available isn't available anymore, so basically you can't even search for a person by their email individually, which means there is no way whatsoever at the moment and there has been no way in the past year for you to find your friends (the friends you make outside of the world wide web like SeanBE said) on last.fm. So bringing back the contact importer is not only having the option to email a form letter, is having the option to import your contact list automatically to see who has a last.fm profile, and also having the option to search for your friends by email, It may not be a big deal for you, but it is a huge deal for some of us, me included.

Why not just email them and ask?

What i'm waiting for in the feature is the cross checking between emails and usernames...I have a large email contact base so it would be very helpful.

I get what you're saying but surely you understand that it is not as simple as just asking people if they have last.fm. Some people have huge contact lists, and there are a lot of different levels of friendships and aquaintances: there are people who are your friends on facebook or whatever and you know them from outside of the world wide web but you just know them because they pass you by in work and/or school and you happen to have their email address because of school stuff and facebook just imports the contact as your friend. It would be akward to email someone you never talk to and ask "do you have last.fm?" whereas if you added that person with the contact importer it would make more sense. That is just an example, there are numerous other situations where it doesn't seem ok to email someone personally but it is ok to add them through the contact importer.

Hi, I would like to invite you to move out from under whichever rock it's been that you've been living under ever since CBS bought the place.

It is also a pain to spam your entire contact list to ask them when a contact importer could do this without emailing your contacts. Clearly a large portion of the last.fm user base would like this feature to be brought back (and it is a standard feature on every other social site), so debating its usefulness is a moot point.

    ^This.
It's a lot easier and more convenient to be able to click a link on the site, fill in my email info and let the importer do its thing for me.
