  • Where is it?

Yeah, I'm surprised that the first post on this topic was in July, and this feature still hasn't come back yet.

I've been looking in periodically over the last month or 2 to see if the feature was up, but it just says coming soon.

I think this should be higher up on the site's priorities!

They have a monkey and a sloth working on the site.. on the backend.. the website was outsourced to the sloths younger cousin who they heard made "web stuff".
But look, how cute the monkey is picking the fleas out of the sloths shiny fur! awww!

i would really like this feauture!

  • Sorry there wasn't any reply here lately, and that it's taking so long to bring this feature back. Be assured that this is something we'd love to do, but we didn't want to keep using the old contact importer because it wasn't that great, and would like to offer a better and improved version, which means that it takes a lot more work to make this feature available again. I can't tell you at this time when this may happen, but hope it won't take as long as you've already been waiting anymore! ;)

That there's no contact importer at present is mentioned in our known issues thread, please keep an eye on this for any updates or on this thread here, I'll post when there are any news. Sorry for the long wait and thanks for your patience!

  • Thanks for the info foreverautumn!

  • skip the contact importer for now... that should only be icing on the cake.. does anyone actually give their email account's user name and password to 3rd party sites anyway?

in the meantime, how about make the searching more robust? such as "search by email address" or search for users by city or state/region?

and also, put a link to "Find People" on the friends page.

I'm not esp' interested in a contact importer (security issues), unless it'll swallow a spreadsheet.

How about the one-off invite feature? Where one has the email address of a non-user. Is that still around, some place I've failed to find? - Best, Ian

Why don't you just send them an email? People are more likely to respond favorably to an email somebody actually wrote than some form letter that'll probably be considered spam.

  • email invite ala facebook style

I'd love to see a friend invite/import ala facebook where I can which of my contacts are already on last.fm and friend them or not as I see fit.

Of course we understand it takes time. But (about to be around) eight months, is an unusually long time.

if its going to take 8 months plus, let us know.
    soon soon soon, whatever.
genius is not quite the same but awfully handy so get it sorted or you will lose people.
The point of difference that puts you above genius is the social aspect, ie seeing what your friends listen too, but I cant find them!

    Genius & Newbie Attention Deficit

    Tom -

Do you mean http://Genius.com ? I'm guessing some third party system that one might give one's email login details too *shudders* and slams out some standard email one's written.

If so, there's a short-term market, pending Last.FM action, for some scripted version that pulls stuff off profiles, via XML, and auto-produces the bulk of such a message. Genius.com has a scripting language to pull / mangle XML?

Anyhoo, I've no problem with 8 months, personally. I do have a problem with the redefinition of "soon" to be "until further notice".

However, notwithstanding the amount of work to be done (e.g. lots language translations in this feature) - I agree Tom, that holding back on this bums-on-seats feature is a false economy. Most non-fanatics (the market Last seems to be pushing for), are quickly saturated with social music site memberships. Thus, if they've joined two, before Last.FM gets to them, they're unlikely to join another - Best, Ian Blip.FM/Scrawl

Wooooooooooooow this is taking TOO long, WAKE UP LAST.FM.

  • It definitely hinders the social aspect of the site when you can't find people you may know through a decent search feature. Is there an ETA on this yet?

No, unfortunately not. But we know many people are asking for this feature and would really like to bring it back; it will still take longer, though. Sorry for the long wait.
