it's super ugly and non functional
    well, this sucks

  • Where is the "Play Similar Artists" Button?

I can see the similar artists beeing displayed while playing tracks in my playlist but the button to listen to similar artists is gone now. That was pretty much the most important funtion to hearing new artists and then tagging them as they played! Please put that button back. And why is it eating my CPU up while downloading info on the artist playing and cutting the player out and making scrolling on pages choppy and slow and this comments box can't even keep up with my typing. I have a very high end gaming rig and the old LastFM never did this!
You should really revert back to the old LastFM, there's some really buggy coding going on here!

I'm afraid I agree with the criticism in this post, even though I realize how much time you guys must've spent on the new design, it seems to be all about looks and nothing about usability. I did submit feedback from the beta and I hope you'll reconsider some of the elements.

    moo?
  • I agree...the new interface gives me the impression that Last.fm is attempting to be more of a social site, like Facebook or Myspace. I prefer the old interface.

  • Why is there so much wasted space on the right-hand side?

Why don't artist specific journals show up on the artist page?

Why is the shoutbox thrown to the bottom of the page?

Why is there a link to an empty playlist?

Why is there a massive space over "About Me" (I presume this is for advertising)

Why is there even a "library" box? It's pointless

To be honest, some of the new functions seem good, but the complete lack of coherency in the page layout makes them irrelevant. Please do something about this. I can see this putting a lot of people off using lastfm, myself included.

IMO the ideal solution is to implement the new features into a lastfm whose layout resembles the old version.

  • The lack of response from last.fm staff speaks volumes. (Sorry, "it's cache" is not a valid response.)

I'm sorry to say, but the new design is seriously bad. It has even *less* scalability than the old one (in terms of people using larger fonts to not ruin their eyes), it is so cluttered (what is the point of that "library" box, that should be at the bottom of the page if present at all). And all this clutter is to the detriment of the things that actually matter, like now you can only see the top 15 artists someone has... wtf? And what happened to the dashboard?

Honestly I felt the same after the move from Audioscrobbler to last.fm, but this is more than just dismay at seeing an unfamiliar design. This one is actually, objectively, bad.

There are good things though: the expanded (but not page-devouring) "about me" box, and the ability to go through all the shouts on your page. But these could have easily fit into the old layout...

I see myself switching to another service soon if this layout isn't rectified. I'm already looking at the competitors, actually.

This is obviously not ready for release

Until the site performs adequately, it should not be rolled out. The loading time is an absolute joke.

I can't comment too much on the layout and features yet because the performance is actually too poor to bother wasting time trying to use. But my initial reaction was "WHY OH WHY???"

  • Choose.

Either I can revert back, or I'm gone.

Evidently, the new LastFM owners (CBS ? ) have never been subscribers.

  • the new interface bothers me... it's too slow and i don't like the charts. i really don't like how long it takes to delete songs you don't want scrobbled to your profile. it used to never take so long. and as others have stated, the CHARTS. I WANT THE OLD CHARTS BACK.

  • The design is awful. I'm not saying it's ugly (although it IS really ugly), it just doesn't work. That chalk look on the header contrasts too much with the clean buttons. The new logo is terrible as well, the "as" ligature doesn't look as clean and nice as it used to, it looks forced.

I really loved your old design, it was clean, visually appealing, easy to understand.. I'ts kind of difficult to find a website with such a great design (I'm a graphic and web designer, I know what I'm talking about), but now it's just like everything else. Ugly, with too much information and no clear organization...

and that chalk look... why don't you use comic sans? it would fit perfectly!

  • /me awaits all the myspace kiddies to come swarming in

still no multi-tag/multi-artist radio, or profile editor? jeez how long have we been promised these things?

-totally agree. Instead of listening to music, wasted half day waiting for certain things to download. Not user friendly at all. This is not about us not liking new because its new, this whole thing just doesn't work out. Oh and layout is totally retarded. But I doubt they are going to do anything about it at this point:(

    +1 :(

I am digusted at the last.fm staff for throwing this new look in our face. Only beta testing subscribers were in on this? Something this big? I think every single user on the site should have had prior input on a change this big.

But whatever, I hear that they didn't listen to the negative feedback prior to the launch anyway so whatever.

Good going, last.fm! You RUINED your website and pissed off most of your users!

  • New site constructive criticism

Its almost all about the layout isn't it?
    1. Put the new shoutbox back to the side. They are shoutouts after all.
    2. The jnls belong in the middle content given more space not the side.
    3. The seperate weekly charts should come back.
    4. The big Library artists pictures are just clutter and considering the page positioning given too much emphasis.
    5. I want my neighbors back.
    6. More tabs on the side and eliminate seperate home interface, unneeded.
    7. For all the ass big pictures the gear for changing the layout of the lists are not noticable enough.
    8. White on white is glaring or defeaning to the eye. The gray borders or some other neutral color on the borders is needed. The light blue used in some sections is sooo light it blends in too much with the white.
    9. We need a functional replytracker if you are going to have a real community feel for the site especially for long-time users with lots of posts.
    10. We need a functional recc reading as well if you are going to search out other users with similiar or connected interests in a way that does not take forever.

Please refrain in the future from rolling out half-baked beta that instantly creates a slow user interfaces where recent tracks disappear. last.fm has done this before and should damn well know better by now. Especially when the layout and feel of the site changes completely, it makes the user less receptive of your changes.

Joe Strummer's dictum: "He who fucks nuns will later join the church."
  • First off, it seems that when I go to my page it's randomizing the time period of music I've listened to for Overall Charts. I want to see my overall chart since I joined, not for the last 3-6-what have you months.

Secondly, it's not necessary to have a "Recent Activity" sidebar... this isn't Facebook. Nor is the library necessary, along with many other of the new gadgets.

I'd like to have something that keeps track of my music without all the stylistic bullshit. This is making me consider finding a different website to join.

    87 seconds.
    53 seconds.

    46 seconds.

    Ew.

  • Calm down ladies, it's not that bad. I think the new update is a breath of fresh air for the website but I agree it would be nice to have the option to keep the old one. I think it's lovely that our charts now update straight away and the whole design looks sleek. But I don't really understand what the library feature is and how it will be used.

    Hai, hai, hai, bai.

  • The layout is ugly. As hell.
it's cluttered up, too. If I'd throw the contents of my entire room on my desk (providing the desk would remain intact), it'd look like the site is now.
It's commercial. I hate MySpace, Facebook, hi5, VampireFreaks, meebo, bebo, Zorpia, and all the other nooblike social networking sites out there... and you should to.
    It's too long.
This has no identity either. The feel it gives is "like everyone else".
It loads slow like hell... if it loads at all.
    Noone really likes it.
The beta users who said this is cool are... right, well anyone can find a few words of insult... except the ones mentioned above.
    All in short:
    I WANT MY LAST.FM BACK!

Everyone who agrees with me, by the way...

^amen to that brother. i think that last fm may lose a lot of people unless they give an option to change back to the old interface

I wasn't actually arguing for the old design. Was only mentioning my disappointment on a few key features I thought should have been here before it went live.

Notice I said I'm not unhappy with the design itself. I don't find it anymore difficult to navigate anymore than the old design really. Changes to structure I can adapt to. Loss of things is harder to adapt to. I can live with that. I can also enjoy the great new library and live charts, but I can't believe they are still missing the reply tracker when I just started to become more active around the forums again. I'm sure it's coming back, but I don't get why you'd go live without it.
