You've turned one of my few internet pleasures visually into another Myspace or Facebook
-totally agree. Instead of listening to music, wasted half day waiting for certain things to download. Not user friendly at all. This is not about us not liking new because its new, this whole thing just doesn't work out. Oh and layout is totally retarded. But i doubt they are going to do anything about it at this point:(

After reading over much feedback I think the over-whelming conclusion is that an option for the 'old-style' should be added in a button.

Simpler is better. I hate this new interface, too much like all the other community sites that look cluttered and ugly. This sucks.

Why the hell did you change everything without asking about it from the users?

The main thing of the whole site, the charts, are too low, you have to scroll down to see them and even then they are small AND you can only see Top 200 artists when clicking "see more". God damn.

And what about real updates? Listing music in terms of length and not songs played? How about that?

Only good thing is the library system and charts refreshing in real-time.

  • I posted my opinions about the beta a few weeks ago, but here goes again: Delete that layout. Please start over (but keep the useful new features). This is simply a step in the wrong direction, and I can guesstimate that at least 60% of last.fm users would agree.

ya best protect ya nec k
  • People keep mentioning caching. Shouldn't the changes have been pre-cached, so as to avoid these problems? And yeah, I agree this new layout is hideous. It looks like it was designed by CBS marketing, instead of people that actually use the site. Sure, they need to turn a profit, but does the overused 'roller' theme really do that, especially since it alienates many of the users? The blog mentions that they lost a rack of servers. How exactly do you lose a rack of servers, except via natural disaster? I can understand 1 or 2 overheating, which should trip some kind of failsafe alarm. But, losing 10-40 (depending on size)? How do you pull that one off? Do you happen to mean that you lost *use* of a rack of servers, or did the servers all actually die?

I agree with all people's opinion, an "old-style" button should be add.
The new interface is slow, i like the other one better!
Please, last.fm team, allow users to be back into the old-style site!

  • Recent visitors seems to display sometimes and not others. Also found the dashboard, now renamed "home" although again it's mobbed with pics at the top of bands recently added to my "library". :S
(Thanks DJmenno for pointing it out).
I think I'll leave it for now and check back tomorrow night to see if anything has changed.

    IT BURNS MY EYES!!!
  • The new design is an abomination of imitation. Last.fm should NOT be playing catch-up with myspace, facebook, etc. -- let the social networking sites do their (bloated and unattractive) thing. Keep last.fm about the MUSIC! Ease of use, accessiblity, scaleability. I'm not a designer but it seems to me that content should be king, and form should never exceed function.

I mean, what the hell... myspace switched it up but allowed users who hated the new look to maintain with the classic skin. Even Google did that with their email provider -- how is this different?

I feel really upset because I didn't know how much I enjoyed this site and networking with people EASILY through MUSIC until it was shaken up.

  • THe new features are cool....but i miss the old layout.
I think you're going to lose alot of users if you don't create an option for switching back to the old layout. Don't turn this into Myspace.

  • Is it just me or do you have the same problem when you try to shout something?
When I do that I can't see the first words I typed, because my avatar is in front of that :S

I'm all for improving the site but I'd like it if certain modules could be hidden. I want to see the charts more prominently, but they've been shoved down in favour of other unnecessary stuff.

Well... I could get used to it...
but a few things, i will not cope with....:

    1. Shoutbox on the very end of the page. Thats absolutely Myspace-style. You dont have the feeling like having a shoutbox... its more a comment box... if ever someone scrolls to the end of your profile page.

    2. the new design is a bit "narrow"... everybody gets widescreen-displays and you cut the new design in half?!? Why???

    3. One of the most important things on last.fm is the statistics.
Why did you cut the statistics on the start page? 15 top listened bands over all.
And the "recently listend tracks" was the most interesting thing here. And now... its not even easy to find. you pushed it to something, that you can look at.... but you wont see it by accident... so how to see, if someone has listened to the same tracks in the last hours... and then shout... if you find the shoutbox... ;)

It just... does not look like last.fm anymore.

  • Why provide a link to an empty playlist for a user who has not created a playlist? Isn't it less confusing just to say they have no playlists?

  • Sorry

I realize you guys at Last.fm have put a lot of energy and funds into a redesign with some new features, but I have to agree with everyone who has posted in this thread. Almost everything is terrible.

Flash 9 scripting crashes Safari consistently, every visit (but even Firefox is slow to load the site).

Shouts are at the bottom of the page (load page, scroll scroll scroll scroll).

Load times are extremely slow on fast broadband, and I can not imagine what it is like on low-end broadband or dial-up.

The interface is a mess -- one shouldn't have to scan all over the page for 5 minutes to remember where ___ is.

User information is at the top, yet 'About Me' is down and to the right side, and group information is down ever farther.

Etc, etc, etc.. on and on.

I don't even know what to say. I'm confused. It was fun to play with beta, but now that it has been launched I need to say that IT IS SIMPLY DISGUSTING!!!!

I hate this new design so much that I think I will be last.fm user no more. It has been so nice to be here for more than two years. Alas, nothing can last forever...

New site is terribad change it back. What I hate the most is the music search. When I try to search an artist the results are confusing and displays not only the artist but different songs / albums too many pages to look through. I don't know if that makes sense but it's just BAD. The old one was way easier to use and all round better. This is disappointing. & SLOW.

  • Click on the number of shouts to be taken directly to your shoutbox.

Change the minimum number of items to display in your charts by clicking on the gears. Up to 50.

I can't believe this went live without a reply tracker. Insane. The activity feed is NOT a reply tracker.

I had a high hopes during the beta period, and they have been dashed. I'm not unhappy with the design itself. I actually don't mind the layout. I don't find the site any more difficult to navigate now than I did previously, though the theme does leave something to be desired, especially with minimal dynamic width. I expected more tweaking before this went live. I will continue argue out unfounded criticism to the design, but I don't think I can positive spin the idea to go live now, with a quite a few usability issues left untouched: Reply Tracker, Inbox notification.

  • ^amen to that brother. i think that last fm may lose a lot of people unless they give an option to change back to the old interface
