I don't care if this is spam, if you don't read it, you're missing out on what you've been complaining about.

    ATTENTION ALL FIREFOX USERS.

I managed to get my Last.fm page looking like this using only a couple of scripts via Greasemonkey:

    http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/2084/ant17smusicprofileusersnp1.jpg

Simply go here to install the Greasemonkey application for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748

And go here to look for and install the scripts: http://userscripts.org/scripts/search?q=last.fm

And a as a quickie, here's a repost of the 'Paint It Black' theme for the new design: http://userstyles.org/styles/8671

    AND ANOTHER BIG NOTE!

I just found out you can delete artists via the library... this keeps getting better!

  • I wonder how they feel?

I wonder what the owners of last.fm think of the group with (at time of writing) just over 3000 members, which are all against the new setup?

    EPIC FAIL

    This is awful

Yep, just another "this is utter shite" post. Take heed, Last.fm: the new site sucks! I don't care how much you've paid your flash (no pun intended) new web developers. The red is awful, the layout is terrible and it doesn't feel like Last.fm anymore; it feels like MySpace, as some others have mentioned.

If there are no plans to allow us to return to the old style, don't be surprised when thousands of users close their accounts. Last.fm is a great service and now it's been ruined. Is this solely for profit? New "corporate vision" or mission statement? Regardless of *why* this happened, we need to be allowed the option of reverting to what *we* like, since we're the ones using the damn site.

The new site is terrible, the layout is confusing and awful and the aesthetics are appalling. Give us our old site back or give us an account deletion link.

    El Casey has spoken.

  • I hate it

    because it is gay.

  • People will always complain when there is a (drastic) change. It's a normal thing. But I did not expect the comments to be that negative and that many.
Personally, I preferred the old last.fm. I don't know why it had to change it in the first place.
Ok, there's the possibility of new features and new data system etc. But couldn't it be implemented into the old layout? Why the need for change?

I think last.fm was still growing and people were still discovering the site and joining. There was no need for a drastic revamp to attract more people. Or maybe they wanted a more facebook/myspace/whatever layout to attract a broader audience?

I hope everything turns out good in the end! :)

    The hard truth

the sad thing is the fact that we all know that last-fm won't change the new layout back to the old version. They have spent too much time, energy , money and sources to even think about doing this! :(
I would make a massive campaign for the design to change back but I know deep down they just won't change things back to how they were..
    *cries* :'(

I think a lot of the users would gladly pay for your time , effort and money(loss) to get the old design back though..

I also hate the new layout. Pity you had to go and change it.

Is there an alternative to last.fm out there in case the change is permanent?

  • It makes me sad that even though 99% of users is mad about the new design, the last.fm team won't listen and do something. Why do you have feedback forum then? Yes, with every new change there comes wave of unhappy people, but I'm not really sure this particular change makes last.fm better.

I use last.fm about two months now and if you had design like this two months ago, I wouldn't make an account here. In fact, I do now seriously consider of leaving. And please, don't take this as a moaning and an infant threat, I saw this new design yesterday and thought it through over night. So far, it is a disappointment and last.fm lost it's "magic" for me.

  • The radio layout is very inefficient and just don't look good

We seek for meaning because we are mortal
  • Oh, another annoyance: the nav bar on the left hand side changes depending on what page you're on. That's a great idea, but ONLY if you have a nav bar above that that is constant. But in all honesty, I think that if you make the navigation horizontal against the top bar (and of course improve the top bar) on top of fixing the format of the pages themselves, that would help tremendously.

    TOO MUCH WHITE! I'M BLINDDDDD
The entire website is totally monochrome to the extreme. Since when is that professional?

  • The most bothering thing at the new Last. fm is that the shoutbox is at the bottom of the page, unreasonably wide and ugly (and reminds MySpace).

This forum makes me lulz... this is a FREE website to register on, IF you subscribe then thats a different matter, but to the peeps who dont pay for this service, what right do you have to whine and moan like 10 year olds? The new layout imo, is pretty well thought out, it allows more customization in the "about me" section and the over all feel is alot smoother. Maybe it loads slower but so what? Im sure that can be fixed.

If you all hate this site so much, why dont you ask for a skinning system, so you can choose to have the site running in a skin/theme you like? instead of slamming the designers.

It's...awful. It really, really is. I'm giving it a chance, but so far...I hate it.

  • I really hate the new layout. Here's why.
    1. It's ugly. The old format was aesthetically pleasing, but this one just has a ton of blank white space with a red strip at the top.
    2. It added many useless features. I don't want my playlist, which I never use anyway, taking up a big chunk of space. The 'library' seems absolutely pointless to me. I don't want pictures of my top 8 artists on my page. If I wanted to see my library, I'd open up iTunes and look.
    3. It takes much, much longer to load and won't even load on my other computer.
    4. Too much scrolling. I couldn't imagine a computer monitor the correct size to show new last.fm pages without having to scroll left to right.
    5. Charts got completely messed up. This is my biggest concern. The absolute most important part of last.fm got ruined for me. If you look at my overall charts, my 18th and 193rd artists' bars are completely level. One has 294 plays, the other has 7. This is completely stupid. Also, less artists are shown than before. This is probably because charts are smaller, which is stupid, as they are the most important thing on our profiles!
    6. Tags are no longer different sizes. I loved that.
    7. No more artist picture quilts.

There are a few things that I like, though, like:
    1. Real-time scrobbling. I love this.
    2. It's now much easier to see top artists/tracks for the past 7 days/3 months/6 months/overall. It's also much easier to set what you'd like as the default. However, this is partially ruined because it takes very long to load.
    3. Recommendations are MUCH, MUCH better. They actually recommend things that are similar to what I listen to now.

However, the good does not nearly outweigh the bad. I am really disappointed with the new last.fm layout, and although I'm not going to leave last.fm, if an option to have the old layout back does not come, I will spend much less time on the site.

  • Look, I'll be honest with you...

This new layout is not the direction to go. It's a good attempt with many good features, but it doesn't have the same vibe. Look at this:
    http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m264/michaelcox68/Picture1-5.png

That would be perfect for this site. Now, I have no idea who made it, but if you could make that official, I guarantee that most of us will be happy.

  • Still no good. The library gets in the way. Everything is too big and takes up too much space. I'm not blind. :[

I hate this new lay-out! Top 50 overall to top 15 overall, not cool!

uhhhhhhh then set it to show your top 50 instead of top 15?

  • I will promise to buy the most expensive subscription and keep subscribing for the rest of my life if you bring back the old site and make any further changes more subtle.

  • They way I see it, all that wasted space is just waiting to be filled with advertisement, wouldn't that be the cherry on top of the pile oh S%$#?????

and the group pictures are way too small, and that's a shame because some of them are pretty great.

  • I feel like I'm on myspace, which I do not want to be reminded of whatsoever when on last.fm. Are we getting a stat showing our relationship status next ?
I also miss being able to see who visited my profile recently, this is a very very effective means of connecting us together and introducing us to new people (if its there, its clearly too annooying to discover based on the navigation). I also come from a Left to right reading country, so it seems senseless to have the blocks on the right.

You know, people will be resistant to change, but there is a difference between "OMG CHANGE NOOOO" and "Here is a logical summary of why this new design fails", which I have read many convincing versions of.

    Hmm.

Erm, no. The internet does not need yet another site that is trying to emulate Facebook.

In terms of design, its a mess. The old site looked pretty unique and struck a near perfect balance between form and function.

And I wish it was only the appearance that has been fucked up. I miss the old dashboard which had a bunch of information laid out clearly. It now takes much longer to view other peoples profiles. I don't give a fuck what the top eight artists in their 'library' are. Just show their recent tracks and top artists, the way it used to be. Also, why have top artists been reduced to 15?!

The old site wasn't exactly swift, but this is even worse.

I am a subscriber, but from what I understand those who aren't can't even listen to their own playlist anymore? Thats some bullshit.

I guess part of the deal with the multi-million pound buy-out last year was to turn this into another social networking site. Well, fuck that.

On the plus side - it's still better than HMV's getcloser.com - though I suspect that is where the 'library' feature came from...
