Adding/Creating/Updating Gift Accounts Email Glitch

I love this idea. However, I've been trained on the Amazon.com model, and am somewhat lazy:)

In order to purchase a gift subscription for my brother I had to:

1) call my bother and and ask him for a suitable/memorable last.fm user name;
2) create the user account for him (removes the surprise/fun)
3) upgrade the new account for my brother.

For future holidays, can there be a method for a more seamless "gift certicate/account"
