    Tag Editor Script Problem

I have a tag with a lot of items and it doesn't load properly. I keep getting an alert with "Unresponsive Script" and I have to click "Continue" or "Stop Script" and the tag appears as not saved, even though I haven't changed anything.

Are there too many items in the tag? If so, what's the maximum number of items I can have in a tag?

I get the alerts in Firefox, it crashed IE.

interesting ;) Well, how many artists do you have in the tag?

How/Where were you editting the tag? From the Tag Editor?

  • If I open your favourites tag on your profile, it shows 747 items. I guess, the profile editor can get a little busy opening this. Have you tried choosing continue?

Yes, I've tried clicking on continue more than 20-30 times and it still doesn't load in the editor. I guess it can't handle that many tagged items.

If I make a new tag, how many items would I be able to tag before I run into the same problem again?

  • Before you go deleting/splitting up tags, I'd have some patience with this for a bit. There is a new tag & profile editor in the works that may address this issue. You might try setting the editor to [view as list] when you first open it and before you go to the Edit Tags tab. This way, it doesn't have to render all the images which may or may not be cached. You can do this by adding the top track from Last 100 to the tag window on the right, clicking on [view as list] and then clicking the Edit Tags tab. You can then [clear] that entry and load your desired tag set. The window will retain list view until you close the editor.

For my part, I only started seeing these script errors after I upgraded to Firefox 1.5 so that may have something to do with it but I've always been able to get my sets to load given a little patience (my largest set is 396 items). Though the note is a bit outdated, the info states that Firefox is a memory hog where the editor is concerned, so I'm not too concerned (how's that for redundancy?) about it just yet.
