Can't tag, delete or add library tracks using the website

If I want to tag a track, add it to or delete it from my library, when I click the icon on the page to do any of these, the confirmation box doesn't load properly so I can't complete the action, for example typing in tags or confirming that I want to add or delete a track. I have tried various tracks, it is not just one or two. I can only tag or add things through the software, not on the website.
What could be causing this? I'm using Mozilla Firefox, I'm not sure which version as I recently updated it and didn't make note of the number. Is the issue with the website or with my computer/Internet?

    Update:

I've also noticed that when I try and go through my library of artists, only the first page loads properly. If I go to page 2,3 4 etc, I just get blank boxes with the 'page loading' swirly icons which just keep going round and round and nothing else appears. This also happens in a similar way when I want to switch from looking at an overall chart to any other. It will switch between types of chart i.e from artist to track or album charts but not from overall to last 7 days, last 6 months etc, it will say it's loading and never does, no matter how long I wait.
These problems are really starting to annoy me as I'm trying to tidy up my library and get rid of some unwanted tracks, but I can't do so at the moment. Can anyone tell me what's causing all this?

  • You can check your browser version by going to "Help" -> "About Mozilla Firefox" in the dropdown menu.

Make sure that you have javascript enabled in your browser settings ("Tools" -> "Options" -> "Content" -> "Enable Javascript").

Also, if you are using any Firefox add-ons, that could be preventing the website from displaying and working properly, try disabling them and see if that helps (alternatively: try running your browser in safe mode - the option should be available in your system's Start Menu, if you're using Windows).

The 'about Firefox' bit says I've got version 2.0.0 but it's recently been automatically updated to version 3 point something.
I've enabled Javascript and that's not solved it. Which add-ons could be causing the problem? I've had a look in the Internet section of my Control Panel and there's a long list of them from various places although most of them are from Microsoft, Java and other sources. I can't find how to run the Internet in safe mode either.
Other people have had similar issues and it's been fixed for them, but I'm still having trouble and I'm not sure why.

  • Have you or anyone else using your computer added the NoScript (or similar script blocking) add-on to firefox? It might be blocking javascript, and it is different from the "in-built" script blocking that michalboo was explaining. Also, a firewall might be blocking the javascripts as well.

    Thanks

I can't find any add-ons that look like they're the problem, but I'll try the Java/firewall idea as that sounds like it might be the issue. *crosses fingers*

    Nope, not worked...

Although I have found something in the 'Error Console' on my 'Tools' menu that is interesting, a list of warnings it's given about last.fm pages and 'Declarations dropped' due to such things as 'Unknown property 'filter', 'Unknown property '-webkit- border- radius-' 'Error in parsing value for property 'width' etc.
These are all listed along with last.fm page addresses of the 'cdn.last.fm' sort that come up when you try and load a page so could this be something to do with the problems I'm having. I'm not very knowledgeable about technical stuff, but it seems this list might have something to do with it all.
Can you shed any light on it or suggest any solutions?

I have Google and Orange UK toolbars, the Orange one currently has an upgrade available which I haven't installed yet. There are two others which are to do with configuration etc so I'm not sure I want to be messing around with those.

  • The errors you've listed displayed on your error console are that of minor page display (layout) issues. No big deal. They don't have anything to do with your inability to tag, add/delete tracks. Do you have a firewall running that might be blocking scripts?

I have a firewall, but I've added Java to the list of programs allowed through it. What else might I need to allow through to allow the scripts to work properly?

  • No no, java is different from javascript. Your firewall probably has some setting to block javascript by default. If you could tell us what firewall you have, we could tll you how do disable it, or if it blocks javascript at all in the first place (which means something else might be causing the problem).

Oh.. I didn't know they're separate things! I have Windows Firewall set for a 'private network' (Home PC) and I'm using the Vista operating system.

I don't know of Windows Vista's Windows Firewall blocking javascript. I don't run Vista, but to my knowledge, its firewall is more or less similar to Windows XP's Windows Firewall. So your firewall blocking javascript is probably out of the question, although it would be better for someone with Vista experience to confirm this.

OK. I'm a bit stuck to think what else could be causing the problem then. I'm trying to think of any recent updates that happened around the time the issue started but I can't remember exactly when they were and when I started having trouble.
Could it be maybe FlashPlayer needs upgrading or something like that? I have had problems with some pages on other websites not loading properly recently so it's not just last.fm.

  • I'm not sure about what could be causing this. Have you any other firewall installed? Are you able to tag, add/delete artists in other browsers?
