Why am I dissallowed play of a certain song? That;s the main reason I subscribed in the first place! Here's what I get when I attempt to play it from my library:

We’re sorry, but you’ve reached the limit for free plays of Aldo Nova – Fantasy.

We’re beta testing our free tracks service, and will be offering a subscription service with unlimited plays soon.

Or listen to an endless mix of music from Aldo Nova and similar artists.

    Don’t show this message again

I wanted unlimited plays , so I SUBCRIBED. Why am I STILL unable to play the full track?

The subscription doesn't affect your ability to play music on the site.

Subscription benefits are listed on this page - notice the big 'coming soon' sign next to the unlimited subscription, as that's not available at the moment (which is why there's no option to buy it, only to get e-mailed when it's available).

  • Hello,
    Unfortunately there are limitations:

We’re publicly beta testing our new free listening service. You can listen to most tracks up to three times for free.

When the beta is over, we’ll offer a subscription package with unlimited access to a catalogue of music built on partnerships with Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, Warner, EMI and over 150,000 independent labels and artists.
We will continue to offer our existing Basic Subscription.

^^ This info is provided on the subscription page (at the top of it):
    http://www.last.fm/subscribe

    Sorry...
Has this message been different when you've subscribed?

  • So what do I get for my money if not the ability to play music that exceeded my 'free' limit?
I may as well go back to free.

Ads are removed, you can see who visits your profile, you can listen to your playlists (dependent upon licensing restrictions, anyway), you can listen to your personal tag radio (as opposed to global tags) and your loved tracks radio (again, provided they meet some licensing restrictions based on how many tracks and artists are in the playlist/loved tracks/tag). It's all listed on the page I linked you to earlier, under 'subscription benefits' (actually, that seems to have missed out the part about playlists).

  • You can see who visits your page.

    You have more radio options.

You get a black square on your avatar.

You can upload animated avatars. Oh wait, you can't do that.

There are unlimited play tracks to be found in Last.fm but you can't distinguish them from 3 x full play then back to preview tracks. You used to be able to, they used to have gold play buttons. I do wish they'd bring those back. It isn't right that new users are getting this perception there are no unlimited play on-demand tracks when so many artists go to the effort of putting them up there for us.

I also don't think it's right that nobody else has mentioned this yet. (Although, maybe that's because the full unlimited play on-demand tracks are available to everybody and this is a subscriber question.) :s

Yeah, using last.fm for new users might make troubles. They expect unlimited plays for free, but it's currently unavailable.

I miss the old last.fm. There were free tracks for weekends, from artists like Bloc Party or Hot Chip. Subscribers were more 'exclusive', the blue icon was much more better than this black sign.

I expect last.fm to come back to the old times.

Free tracks for weekends? As far as I can tell the giving away of free tracks hasn't changed, its still entirely up to the label/artist to provide such things, a redesign doesn't change that.

And there definitely still are plenty of unlimited play tracks out there and I agree it they should be distinguished from limited free play in some way.

Yeah, there were full tracks to stream for weekends. Bloc Party had Banquet and Two More Years to listen. So what happened that now artists and labels worry to give their tracks to stream?

I don't mean that with the layout changed last.fm changed its purpose.

Never noticed the weekend thing myself either...

'Maybe living and dying are the same thing, maybe the fact that we turn them into two different things is why we feel so lost.'
  • I'm very, ver sure there was never such a thing; if some tracks were available as full-length previews over a weekend only, it was a coincidence.

In short: yes. Unfortunately there currently is no way of getting unlimited plays on this website.

I'm thinking about it too. How long is it going to take? I got bored of waiting.
