FF: Grey screen, blue text, nothing else (was: The site is not working on FF)

  • junaxp: does the site look like this picture or white, with all the links underneath eachother??
If the latter is the case, your problem is easily solved by a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5) and not related to the issue here.

[Edit] Just tested on FF 3.0.3, running on a Mac, with MacOS 10.5.5... same issue. That means the issue is NOT windows-related, but rather an FF3-issue. The machine used for testing is behind the same company firewall as my XP SP3-machine. Will test later with the same machine, and without that firewall.
[Edit 2] The problem is not related to FF3 alone. FF2 has the same issue on a firewalled machine. The OS is not the issue either, since I have found this issue on WinXP, Mac OSX and Red Hat linux.
Furthermore, I understood that our company firewall (eSafe) does indeed block certain java-scripts.

For now I have to use IE7 to use the site. Obviously, most users have no option to alter or change the corporate firewall-settings, meaning that, in my humble opinion, the solution is that staff looks at the code of the page, and how needed certain java-related code is...

  • Problem attending events in FF

For days I tried to attend an event in FF3 on WinXP, but it just showed the spinning animation. I then tried in MSIE and it worked.

Haven't tried restarting the browser/computer etc or made any debugging work, I leave that to you. ;) Just wanted to point at a possible bug or at least an existing problem.

  • Editted the title.
This is a specific problem that has little or nothing to do with other browsers or certain parts of the site not working. If you have problems like that, please search for other threads or open a new one.

Yeah, Exploder sucks. Reporting the same issue (and it happened a while ago too, but the problem was fixed several days later)...

By the way, when I run lastfm on FF it shows the grey screen, but if I refresh the page, let the refresh bar load just about 90% and then click refresh again, my profile page shows up - but it's screwed up and cut in the middle.

  • I guess this issue will stay forever
    Why doesn't last.fm do something?

  • For the staff, a grep from the eSafe-error logs of my company, when opening Last.fm:2008_10_09_1223503248.log:2008-10-09 13:47:18|HTTP|Get|File modified to remove malicious content|http://www.last.fm/log/client/radio/buffer_underrun|text/html,|29392|87.117.229.100|193.172.132.106|||||||||Objects Removed: 1-JavaScript Forbidden function(s) found: document.write(unescape, |Java script

UP! Running this site on IE sucks. It's been about 3 weeks now, if I'm not mistaken.

  • Who in last.fm staff can I send him a message to fix this problem?
It seems that no one is doing something to fix this problem!

Is the staff aware of this problem at all?

  • Looking at the running list of issues on Last.fm, and also the fact that those issues haven't been fixed for quite some time now, I don't see this problem getting attention any time in the near future. I guess we should just grow used to the indifferent treatment.

Windows is something Satan looks at and goes, "Whoa! Now why didn't I think of that?!"

  • I have brought this under the attention of the staff numerous times. They are aware of it. That is a fact.
I have no idea how far their progress to solving this issue is...

  • What Jester-NL says, we're aware of this problem. It seems to affect only a small number of users (which is why it is not in the "Known Issues"; this thread is not a copy of our bug tracker, but should help letting people know what the most common current issues are), and we also cannot replicate it which makes looking into it more difficult, albeit all the details already posted here (thanks!).

Now the site works fine on Firefox, but it keeps logging me off all the time.
EDIT: Nope, back to grey screen again.

  • Based on tkonfms statement I tried the site again (at work) in FF.
I managed to log in (that was the first time in a long time I saw L.fm in FF at work...) However, once I was logged it, it turned grey again...

Jester, perhaps it's not viable, but have you tried Opera from work?

Did I hear that right? Mondegreens - for the misheard word.

Snyde, I never had the problem in Opera (or in Internet Exploder). However, using another browser is not the issue...
The issue is that Firefox (2 or 3) seems incapable of displaying the site in combination with certain firewalls, where other browsers have no (or less prominent (to be more precise)) issues. Me thinks that that is something Last.fm-staff has to correct.
I happen to be in a position at work where it is fairly easy to get logs from the firewalls, so I am posting in this thread, although I have an alternative browser (and yes, I prefer the searchbar in FF3 many times above having to type urls as I have to do IE). I hope that my posts will help the staff in solving this.

It seems to be working again...
