If you mean on the radio, then you don't. Due to licensing restrictions, radio playback has several restrictions.

well I am an artist and my material is posted for everyone to listen to and there are no restrictions..... the thing is that I cannot even listen to my own albums anymore!!!!! so my albums cannot play, but it is NOT because of MY licensing restrictions.... it is the website that prevents album plays, not me

Would it be possible for the site to differentiate between artist uploads with unlimited on-demand play (the old gold tracks) and 'normal' uploads from everywhere else that are subject to license restrictions?

Actually, I know it is possible - it was done for the Sigur Ros album a few months ago. It was set up as on-demand unlimited play, available to subs and non-subs, with automatic advance between tracks.

So if that didn't conflict with license restrictions, why can't artists who upload their material choose how we hear them?

Just to clarify, is this why when you load up an album and it puts the whole list of tracks into the player on the upper right, that it will only play one track and then stop and you have to hit the 'play' button again to get the next track?

Very annoying.

yeah, totally annoying, I prefer listening to CDs than interrupting my work every 5 minutes to click on the player.

I was also using the "play within last.fm player" option, so I could leave the page and the music still played in the last.fm software. Now I browse away from the page and cut audio playback all the time... :(

...total downgrade of the user experience! .....that was your "update" ?

I know why. Independents give their music for free, or unlimited listens, and it gives us an edge over signed artists on the web. ... so now I am limited as if I was signed.
