I seem to have this problem...

  • I seem to have this problem...

Hello, I am new here and I have a strange problem that is annoying. For some reason, if I play a song it plays for only 3 seconds, then stops, then starts again.
It does this to every song. What could be causing this?

    Hello,
as Saf2 said, please provide more information. Is it a website or client issue?
If it is website issue, please provide links to pages with broken tracks.
    Thanks!

  • I think it is on the Last fm page. Whenever I am buffering any song on the Last fm website it always stops every 3 seconds throughout the song.

I just search the artist I am looking for, click on the artist name, then I just press the play button to see what is playing and that's when the trouble starts.

I am new and don't know much. Am I supposed to download something to get the artist song complete and not chopped-up for every three seconds?

Oh I think we all thought you meant the song started playing from the beginning. Sounds like you just have a slow internet connection, there's no added feature preventing the playing of songs in full.

  • Ahhh man, thanks for your response. What internet connection do you have and do you experence any problem with your music listening. I have Netzero with high speed.

I want to know if there are any better interent conmnection than mine, so that I can upgrade to a better one to load pictures, Videos and Music. Again Thanks for the Responses. (^_^)

  • Do a test on something like http://speedtest.net/ and post the results (Download Speed is what's interesting in this case).

  • Alright here is the the results:

I used the recommended server and for some reason I got Juno instead of Netzero.

I also used the New York server, but the results were about the same...

you should probably have tested against a london server, but anyway, what grade of internet service/bandwidth do you have? cable? dsl? dialup?

your download speed is way lower than your upload speed, which is odd, as usually it's the other way round. 48kbps indicates a modem dialup, but then that doesn't explain the 184kbps upload speed. and at 48kbps, any last.fm music stream, which has a typical constant bitrate of 128kbps, would certainly encounter choppiness. i'm not sure if even increasing your buffer size in your player preferences will solve the problem.

you should have a word with your service provider.

there are some things pngs can't fix. for everything else, there's pngoptimizer.
  • Yeah, I don't know much about internet connections, but something's definitely wrong with those numbers.

Are you using wireless? Or do you have a wireless router connected in your house?

Do you share this connection with other people in your house?

I'm guessing this isn't the reason, but it never hurts to ask: were you using any p2p/torrent/downloading big files in any way?

If you answer no on all these questions, then yeah, like Fmera said, contact your service provider.

  • Hi, thanks for the responses.

    I have dial up,
I do not have a wireless router,
I am not sharing this connection with any of my household members, and
No, I did not download anything on this computer.

Should I change my Internet service?I have been
thinking about it for some time.
Can you guys recommend me one that can download videos, music, and photos fast?

    I have dial up,

    There's your problem.

Dial-up internet isn't even almost quick enough to listen to streaming radios - a dial-up connection is 56kb/s (and that's when running at their fastest), last.fm streams are 120kb/s - which means that even if your connection literally does nothing other than download the last.fm stream, it's still less than half of the speed it needs to be to play properly.

    Buffering problem

White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane stops in several places while it buffers. This seems to happen on both client and website. My copy on Itunes plays fine on last.fm.
