Play me more of that nice stuff please!

On "My Radio Station" the last two weeks, I've heard TocarZiggy Stardust almost every day. Considering my wide musical taste, and although I really like the song and David Bowie in general, I think it's a bit much. I've observed that other songs play often as well and that other songs by the same artists never play.

Why is this? Why doesn't "My Radio Station" play any other songs by David Bowie? The only song ever played on "My Radio Station" by Keane is TocarThis Is The Last Time. Why? I like Keane. Play me some of their other tunes please!

Infected Mushroom and Mike Oldfield are the most listened to artists in my profile, still I can't remember "My Radio Station" ever playing any of their songs. If it has happened, I can count it on one hand. Why is this? Are my musical taste too obscure? These are renowned and pretty well-known artists, yet songs like TocarBattleflag (space Raiders Remi is played so often I now know the lyrics.

While I really love the way Last.fm gently massages new and previously unheard music into my ears so I can discover stuff I didn't know about or didn't know I liked, I think it would be awesome to be played some of the stuff I know I like too. Like anything at all from The Prodigy for instance. Please?

All of the mentioned artists have more than one song uploaded, still I've never heard them in any of my channels. Who can upload songs for a given artist, by the way?

The actual artist or the label that has signed up to last.fm and have said that they own the label basically.

    :)

Yeah, but the artists songs are completely randomized. Also, if it's similar radio, your only gonna get one track of the artist you tapped in becuase it is meant to be all the songs similar (tagged) to that artist.

    Regards

  • hello asbjornu,

¿Have you tried using the "discovery mode" available for subscribers?

It's not a "similar" radio, it's "My Radio Station". And as pellitero asks, I've enabled "discovery mode". So I don't quite understand why artists that Last.fm has a plethora of songs from (like the one I'm listening to now; Tina Turner, which only plays TocarPrivate Dancer) only plays one song. I want them all! :-)

  • Ummm... "Discovery mode" works for me.

Plan B, as a subscriber I recommend you to use the personal tags radios.

As opposed to the global tag radios, the content of the personal ones is only the one that you attribute the tags to.

You can tag different elements through the site, artists, albums, tracks and labels with the same tag and only this will be the playlist of the station formed.

Give it a try, it's worth it.

That requires me to crawl around Last.fm's site like a mindless web spider, tagging each and every tune and artist I'd like to appear on my playlist. And that only includes the tunes or artists I know about; what am I to do with artists and tunes I don't know about yet (but would like Last.fm to introduce me to)?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd like the randomization of Last.fm's radio stations to actually work instead. There are tunes in Last.fm's library I know I want to hear, yet Last.fm never plays them to me because the randomize algorithm is obviously broken. Just now Ziggy Stardust played again; still the only tune I've ever been played by David Bowie.

Yes, agglo -- Radio service's song randomization is very broken looks just like what I'm experiencing. Thanks for pointing it out! :-)
