two years in a row - i think next year I will have to give it a skip. lineup bombed this year not to mention the fact that the sound was just too low in volume. Mode selector walked off stage with a half hour left because they could not turn up the bass. if hackney council want events in victoria park they need to let event people to turn up bass/volume. I swear at one stage I watched efterklang and even though I was quite near the stage I couldn't barely hear them.

So disappointing. I think Modeselektor were one of the highlights for me personally, but they had to cut their set short because of technical difficulties. Matters weren't helped by the shitty weather and thus having to smoke in the rain. Then learning Dan Deacon had cancelled put me in a foul mood. Still it was amusing watching the security battle with the itinerant urinators, and finally giving up as the day went on.

I didn't get to go but I read a post mortem for the event (here: http://www.spoonfed.co.uk/spooners/domzig-172/field-day-409/) and it sounded like it was just miserable. I can't even imagine it being enjoyable even with such an amazing lineup. Did anyone have a good time??

i enjoyed it enough to go again, for the money it's not too bad (although some signposting for us pure confused country bumpkin non-london residents etc would have been nice.... !). very similar to indian summer in glasgow, but that got shut down because of some mongs, hope the same fate doesn't befall this!

brodinski and hawtin were quality. they are slowly improving. poor old festival is destined to fail isnt it? ill still contemplate going to next years festival.

broke my tiny heart to see dan deacon's name crossed out when i got there :( the mae shi were excellent though, foals / the notwist / les savy fav were all great too... one of the problems was that people were using the tent to shelter from the rain, so they looked rammed but actually it was just the outer ring that was really busy, once you got through that then you could get a good spot! kudos to the couple in front of me who were doing r&b usher-style dancing to foals, that made my day!

You'll be back ;) Next year you will see the lineup and be like "ohh ohh, i want to see them, and them and them!" and you'l shell out that measly £30 with hope that the event has improved. And you know it!

I danced my ass off at modeselektor, but it was on pure willpower, 'cause I could barely hear anything. So it's not very strange that "posers" were standing around with their hands in their pockets, because you really had to KNOW the tracks to get a feel for them. I'll never go back to Field Day, this was just too weak. I've been to a lot of festivals, and this was by far the poorest organized. That it was better than last year is no redemption. It just means last year was utter shit.

Benga was last on in the Blogger Tent, I was going to see him but you really need a huge bassy soundsystem for Dubstep to work.

I thought it was an OK day, the weather was against the promoters, but to be fair not as great as it could have been. again the toilet queues were horrendous. the sound was not the best, the main sticking point for me would be lack of signs for the toilets (as mentioned prev) and around the actual site as well as from the stations and through the park. walking through an industrial estate and over a flyover alone as a girl is not much fun if you are not sure you are going in the right direction. the programme was also really hard to read, should have been split into time slots and have better colour font and background to make it easier to read in the rain or a dark tent. I'll wait and see what happens next year, hopefully the sun will improve the vibe a lot! however great food and drinks reasonably priced also the Amersham tent did not sell cider - its a festival!

Think it was a lot better organised than last year. Weather and the delays pretty much ruined it for me though. One last chance Field Day. I want to love you, but you keep on fucking me over.

also, Les Savy Fav and the Notwist kicked ass.

It wasn't THAT bad. An improvement on certain areas compared to last year. It's just a pity that all the acts I wanted to see I had already seen before. I bought the tickets for Dirty Projectors, Cut Copy, and El Guincho. Who sadly all cancelled. Still, if the weather was nice it would of been a good day out. Sound issues, well, yeah, its a festival.

ha! the posers were hilarious, all drain-pipes, moustaches and 'look at tarquin, he's got his shoes on his hands'

    agosto 2008
  • jrisgod

The sound was horrendous for Modeselektor in the Bugged Out tent, although the huge amount of posers standing around chatting didn't help. Was much better for Hawtin, who was ace. Les Savy Fav were as amazing as ever too, I was down the front and Harrington was on fine fine form.

    agosto 2008
  • mightydoosh

i think field day is mostly a dance festival the sound quality in the bugged out stage was pretty good and holden and hawtin were amazin! I think if your were coming for the bands yours always gonna be disappointed because the stages are soo small and the sound was as bad as last. I thought it was generally good especially for £30!

  • henrifernandez

Agree with most things said below-the day was saved by some great performances from Tuung, Lightspeed Champion, The Field and Foals. We stood near the front for everything so sound was ok, but, jesus, they took so long sound checking. We nearly gave up waiting. As fot the toilet situation...I am insensed by it. Yesterday when I was busting for a wee, I tried to find a loo, but gave up. I could have waited in a queue for, what, an hour at least? So I could have the pleasure of peeing in a vile, stinking and probably overflowing toilet? No thanks.(whilst also missing a load of music too). What really got my goat was seeing men pissing everywhere, and I was unable to do the same. Women were completely un catered for. So, in desperation what I did have to do was get my three male friends to screen me whilst I peed behind a tree. Totally humiliating and I'm sorry to the embarrassed looking guys next to me who saw! Next year? No thanks. They've lost my £30.00

Bad things: 1) As a bloke I had to pass the IQ test that was "figure out you didn't need to be in the huge queue to use the urinals" to avoid the queues. It was only later they put some cardboard signs up. 2) The sound was variable. Good things: 1) Beer queues much more sensible than last year. 2) Food wasn't a massive rip-off. 3) Enough good bands to have a great time. 4) Les Savy Fav and Richie Hawtin - fxlnt. It's year 2 for Field Day and they're improving. I'll be giving them one last chance next year.

i was very dissappointed with this festival, although i suppose the two main issues for me are out of the promoters control; crap weather and a crowd full of superficial posers, many of whom were wearing glasses with no frames which i quite frankly find to be a disgusting rediculous guise for anyone to bear. My day started ever so well with incredible performances by the howling bells, jeffrey lewis and tunng (my personal favourite) and went sharply downhill from there. I was looking forward the most to The Notwist who seemed to be almost lost on the crowd who had been enjoying matt helders (i think...all the timetabling i saw was completly fucked) playing songs youd expect to hear at a shit wedding reception. I think it was almost at this point that i lost the will to continue my evening. They still played well but i spent the entire time being pushed around by people leaving the tent or not being able to hear over the squeels of loud conversation surrounding me. Never again,

Field Day have got to sort their act out. The sound was AWFUL! I couldn't believe how bad the sound quality was on the main stage and the Homefires stage. Homefires was a complete joke. The queues to the toilets were ridiculous as well. Really, really poor organisation. If it weren't for Efterklang being as fantastic as they were I would have felt entirely robbed.

Worst Organisation Ever Shame on the organisers - how hard can it be to plan a toilet area? Worst queues I've ever seen

From their site: "Using Ear To The Ground's experience of providing for large events, we're going to make sure that the number of toilets is more than adequate to service the site this year and this provision will be significantly above the recommended level. " That turned out to be a fib then!

The line-up was decimated. The line ups on the walls, on the website and on the screen were all different, and none of them actually seemed to be right. The only way you got good sound was to be right at the front. I watched a security guard push someone because of some unspecified slight. Needs work. The Field were utterly fantastic though. Shame they didn't have time to play more than three songs. Grumble grumble.
