• NO RAIN! NO RAIN! very special experience in 2007 - survived!

    Fev 8 2010, 16h05 por Hetfield55

Do., 5. Jul. – Roskilde Festival Roskilde says: "Six stars to the audience
Roskilde Festival ‘07 was characterised by extreme rainfall, which greatly affected the festival – about 100 mm of rain fell throughout a total of 35 hours of rainfall. Nevertheless, the festival kept standing on its muddy but strong foundation, because the indispensable audience and priceless volunteers chose to defy the rain and kept the orange flag flying. Distinctions of excellence were to be handed out left and right. The audience got their medals for having defied the weather gods and strongly rejected nemesis. The dedicated audience could easily put away their swimming badges from school and put on the t-shirt reading “I survived Roskilde 2007.” The audience showed up to experience yet another awesome Roskilde Festival and to hear the extraordinary selection of music.
People were evacuated in other parts of Denmark, but that did not happen here. Furthermore, the guests took extra good care of each other. …

  • Music I listened to September 13th 2007 - February 7th 2008

I went back to Japan on September 13, 2007, to study there for a year. I've been listening to so much great music since then, I once again feel like wrapping it all up in a journal entry here on last.fm. This past fall/winter marked some changes in my music listening habits. First of all, I'm listening to even more music now than I did before.

Until September, it was normal for me to listen to about 300 tracks every week. My last.fm charts now clearly show that the normal amount became about 500 tracks after I came to Japan. That's 200 more tracks per week! Assuming each track is about 4 minutes long in average, that means more than 13 more hours of music listening per week. Wow. There are three reasons for this, I think: 1) I live on my own and I'm thus able to listen to music every second I'm inside my apartment (which I basically do. I only take breaks when watching DVDs and when sleeping) 2) I've been studying so much Japanese in libraries and cafés and coffee shops…
  • 2007 - what happened this year!

    Dez 30 2007, 19h45 por Endar

2007 was a long, strange year for me. It started out in cold winter months with heavy snowfall - so heavy, in fact, that I don't recall havin' seen anything like it before, in Denmark.
First concert was in January and that was the olde Hatesphere, as I loved them.

Then I met 19 years and onwards into glory ride!
And then to Cannibal Corpse, at the Rock!
Doesn't quite deserve the !-mark, however, as it sucked pretty bad ass, at least to my metallic tastebuds.
And then, two days later, I had an experience shake my world:
    Manowar.
After seeing them live in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, nothing would ever be the same for me again - no live show would ever feel the same, for that was an absolutely fuckin' brilliant kick to the face the Metal Kings delivered there, in that hall.
I'd never seen a show that big, a band that big or a crowd that...loving (or fanatic, for the sake of that) and I soon found myself as one of them.

So close to your chest, you're making me confused~

    Never-ending fireworks~

    HARDER, BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER!

I want to dance to The Whitest Boy Alive again. They were AMAZING live at Roskilde. I was in total bliss for a whole hour and it was totally different from what I had expected. I wish their album was more like this super-danceable live version of them as well ... but I still love Dreams the way it is, of course.
  • Europe, Roskilde Festival and musical good times :)

    Ago 24 2007, 8h12 por schtef

So ah, I just got back from about 2 months of travelling which included Thu 5 Jul – Roskilde Festival, a definate highlight.

The festival itself and the 4-day lead-up was an experience with crazy-drunken good times, amazingly friendly people, tent-swapping and rain, rain, rain! The campsite next to ours was completely flooded so we were pretty lucky. They were Danish so they just went home and caught a train into the festival. We were English and Aussie so if we were flooded we'd have a bit more trouble!

    Thursday 5th July
Caught the Arcade Fire. Exactly what I expected. Lovely but not overwhelming (which is exactly the way I feel when I listen to their music).
    Standout track: Neon Bible.
Left early to catch LCD Soundsystem with Dan. Never really bought the hype but seriously, after seeing them live totally now selling the hype :P Had the whole crowd pumped and jumping around and put on a damn good show! My Thursday highlight :)
    Standout Track: Tribulations

This years Roskilde didn't quite turn out as I'd hoped. The worst weather in the festivals history, mud everywhere, my tent being torn to pieces, caching a vicious cold... I've been home a while now and think I'm ready to put things in perspective.

    Thursday
The Killers were OK. I love the music, but they didn't really do anything new. Still, a good concert.
Björk played a great concert. She's always energetic and fun. The stage show was a lot of fun. Especially the DJs. Lots of strange contraptions, LCD touch screens and fun stuff. Second time I've seen her, and I think this was the better show.

    Friday
Katatonia was good. I absolutely love the band so I guess I'm sort of biased. They really didn't do much on the stage, but their material is so mellow that you can't really expect a huge show.
In Flames was good as well. Not a great show, but a solid performance.
My Chemical Romance was OK. Great band, great songs. A bit fuzzy on the vocals, but I'm not sure if that was technical or if it was the vocalist.
  • Roskilde 2007 - Some remarks

    Jul 16 2007, 17h20 por rakkerman

I wasn't really going to write a review for Roskilde 2007... Especially after I read some of the reviews already posted on this site (for example this one --Dutch language alert-- and this one). What could I possibly add to that?

But I guess I do want to get a couple of things of my chest.

First off, it was my first Roskilde. I moved to Copenhagen (from Holland) last April, so I really did not have an excuse anymore... ;-) And what an edition to start! Well, you already know all about that, I guess: Wettest edition ever, tents flooded, people going home, rubber boots sold out throughout Denmark, etc.

Anyway, looking back, I am a bit surprised that I enjoyed it so much, considering the weather conditions. Add to that that I am not very good at sleeping in tents in noisy environments, and join me in being surprised! It did mean I got to experience a bit more of the festival than my camp buddies, who slept like babies until somewhere in the afternoon. …
  • What I saw at Roskilde Festival '07

    Jul 12 2007, 9h43 por bellafox

Thu 5 Jul – Roskilde Festival

The first festival I have ever had to undergo without a camp to return to safely every night.

The weather ruined my warm-up, my party spirit and eventually also my camp, with 40 cm of water in my tent.

But as for the music, I was overjoyed. Unlike all the people that thought this year's program sucked, i found the program varied, interesting and very in my liking. And most of the bands lived up to my expectations.

But sadly and as usual I only saw about half of what I expected to:

    Thursday

The Arcade Fire - fucking awesome, i nearly cried when they played 'My Body Is a Cage', and finally cried with joy when they closed with 'Wake Up'.
Björk - very beautiful, though I didn't see the whole show. Remember the water running down my face, standing in an actual stream of water, wearing a heavy secluding rain poncho. Somehow it all seemed to fit.

    Missed:
LCD Soundsystem - would really have liked to see this, but had to salvage my belongings from my sinking tent.
