Sat 24 Jul – High Voltage Festival

Yeah ok there were a lot of you older people there. I think the mix of ages was brilliant at this festival, it was great to see all the guys and girls in or bordering on retirement dusting their rock socks off and shoving them back on, only to send them flying off again in a transcendent moment of “My God I was alive during the best decades of musical prowess and it's all still going." Us young whippersnappers with our stupid haircuts and chains and make up and running around like hairy gladiators. Go get a job.
That is what made the festival great actually. Me and me old Mum often talk about bands she was into in the 60's and early 70's, and when you look at them, a lot of them are real ugly bastards. Even Paul Kossoff, I mean absolute reverence for the man but his beard and hair did look like the pubic hair of either a large panda or a Russian giant from folklore. The lack of shirtless men who spend their time feelin’ the burn, because that's how I live was amazingly refreshing…

Sat 24 Jul – High Voltage Festival

The High Voltage Festival was most definitely the best two musical days of my life. While none of the individual performances were the best gigs I’ve ever seen (Kamelot and Nightwish still jointly hold that crown) as an event it was simply wonderful. The huge array of bands made it totally worth the ticket price and the atmosphere was great. Obviously I did not get to see every band, but I got about to as many as I physically could see, because there were some acts that I was not prepared to miss any of. I will review each band in turn that I saw all, or the majority of. Then I will have a list of bands that I caught bits of with a little comment of each.

    Touchstone:
This was the first band of the weekend for me, and it was just over a week since I saw their live album launch gig. While this was far shorter, it did not lack power. They played a great set in front of a huge crowd (they were the only band on at the time) and the crowd seemed to really enjoy them. …
