  • Sunday - Download 2010

    Ago 16 2010, 20h59 por McMackerel

    Fri 11 Jun – Download Festival 2010

This was the first time I've been to the Download Festival, and could only go for the last day (Sunday), but I'm extremely glad I could go at least for the one day. When we arrived it was baking and sunny, I started to regret having brought my jacket - the sky was pretty clear. I got through the gates, and suddenly got very relaxed, just waiting and killing time until Slash came on stage. Kudos to a hot dog stand, sold the best I'd ever eaten. It's all a rip off though hah.

About 10 minutes before Slash came on, I made my way toward the main stage - I was constantly checking my watch, but my company just wouldn't move! Got a decent spot somewhere in the middle, then he walked on. Being a massive fan of G N' R, VR and liking the new album it was absolutely awesome to see his top hat work its way toward the centre of the stage. Sure, he's a bit podgier than when Appetite came out, but give him a break; he is almost 45. …

    FRIDAY

You’d think a band like Unearth (8/10) would be an inappropriate choice for opening a festival like this, but the band have enough power behind their songs to kick-start the weekend with a bang. However, the main stage’s sound doesn’t seem to want to work with them, but the Massachusetts five-piece do their best to overcome such difficulties with songs like My Will Be Done and Zombie Autopilot, inciting some rather nasty circle pits.

So metal, one set of horns will just not do.

36 Crazyfists (7/10) not only suffer from similar sound problems, but a rather slow start that only lifts up once KSE’s Howard Jones joins them onstage for an explosive rendition of Elysium. After that, the set begins to pick up a little as they rip through tracks like Slit Wrist Theory, but on the whole they are perhaps not as memorable as one might have hoped.

    Fri 11 Jun – Download Festival 2010

Eugh, I haven't done a review for a gig in so long. Probably not the best idea to try and pick up the pieces with download festival, but I will anyway

Unfortunately for myself, the dates of download this year and my exam timetable were pretty interwoven. I bought myself a 5 day camping ticket (thanks for charging me an extra £10 download, just great) and later found I had exams wednesday afternoon, friday morning, and the monday morning directly after.

"No matter though" I thought. I'll get my mates to set up my tent, chill on wednesday evening and thursday morning, go home thursday evening, get a good nights sleep, ace my friday exam and be back in time for bands.

Roll on wednesday. My exam didn't end till 4 and I'm not up at donington till 5. My tent is vaguely set up, but the outer has been ripped, and the whole thing is badly set up. I brought up the spare outer and sorted it all out. Good job. Down to the serious business of drinking and meeting our camping buddies. …

  • TheHartAttack's Download Festival 2010 Experience

    Fri 11 Jun – Download Festival 2010

It's hard to believe that it's already been a whole year since my first time at Download, and that the 2010 event has now come and gone. After having such an amazing time last year, I was looking forward to returning so much - there was not a single day that I hadn't been thinking about it, posting on the forums, searching for rumours or creating fake line-ups. Could Download 2010 live up to my expectations and match the previous year, though...?

I left home at about 11:00 on Wednesday, picked up my friend and headed to the M25, and then up the M1. After hitting some traffic and taking a detour into Loughborough to drop my friend off with another friend with whom he was staying (they weren't up for camping, but that wasn't going to stop me), I finally arrived at Donington at about 16:30. Unlike last year, when I stayed in the car park for several hours watching people arrive and soaking up the atmosphere…
