I remember when Yelle was supposedly playing '09, long before it started getting hype. they just randomly took her off the lineup, and it really disappointed me!

I most definitely would go, if there were an All Points West this year.

MBV aren't at headlining status yet. But they should have put them on earlier and put like Arctic Monkeys before Tool. The Tool fans wouldn't have seen them if they were on earlier = more open-minded crowd.

MBV should've headlined instead of Tool and Tool fans were so annoying

I'm still bummed about Gaslight Anthem being cut, I've heard great things about them live and was really looking forward to them. Beyond that. I enjoyed myself a lot. Shearwater's talent was more evident than on record and Ra Ra Riot sounded good. Vampire Weekend were fun and as soaked as we were. I was a little underwhelmed by the YYYs, vocals weren't as strong as I'd have hoped. I love Telepathe's album, but they were probably the worst I saw all festival. Front row of the Postelles on the second day, probably the highlight for me, Black Gold was solid, I loved Cage the Elephant ("Have I said this before?") TPC, and Electric Touch. Only made it to half of AM, but they seemed good to me. Gogol Bordello's energy was unmatched. The Ting Tings were fun but not brill. I'd rather have seen Gaslight than the ok SP, WAS were great, Mogwai sounded epic, as did the parts of Echo I caught. Coldplay were great, but I left for MGMT, who I thought were very energetic and likable.

I enjoyed when Eugene from Gogol Bordello called TOOL pussies. Hahaha. Also, mud is my favorite.

Ha! Yeah, that was the capper. I felt like I was going insane, and time stood still. Is it still going, 3 days later? Can't imagine what the uninitiated felt.

Probably during "You Made Me Realise", right? :D That one always separates the men/women from the boys/girls.

The MBV set was hilarious. I got a huge kick out of witnessing thousands of meathead Tool fans FREAKING OUT.

Besides the mud, Saturday was gorgeous and Gogol Bordello killed it. Never saw anything like it in my life. Tool is always stunning, and Tim & Eric's testicle costumes blew my mind.

Coldplay...no explanation needed. Crystal Castles...amazing. Gogol Bordello, Silversun Pickups, La Roux, Ra Ra Riot and Tokyo Police Club all great shows. Missed MGMT, MSTRKRFT and Ghostland Observatory :(. Much respect for all the others suffering barefoot and ankle deep in mud for the love of music.

  • HLLLYH

Tool should never have been booked for a festival like this. First off because Tool fans are subhuman. The band and their fans should be indefinitely locked in a soundproof detainment center.

  • licoricepizza

Read some of the previous posts re: the disrespect shown to MBV by a lot of the Tool fans that went. I feel kind of ashamed. I LOVE both bands. Didn't think my fellow Tool brethren would turn out to be so fucking retarded. Morons.

Ghostland was the best see I saw on Sunday followed by Mogwai,Elbow, Black Keys and Lykke Li.

Besides being coated in mud, I had an amazing time. There were so many bands on Sunday that I wanted to see that overlapped, so I didn't really get to see a full set for anyone. I saw the last half of MGMT's set (I couldn't tear myself away from Coldplay), and I wish I could've heard "Of Moons, Birds, & Monsters" live- ohh well...

i saw my bloody valentine on roseland two and after saturday pretty much im sure that is the only band i'll never get tired of

Sunday was awesome! La Roux killed it, Hey Champ was very good, MGMT was great, Mogwai was perfect for that time in the day, chill set, Black Keys were great thu it got a bit old fast... Excellent day!

  • detailsofwar

Friday was excellent. the rain kinda sucked but really was not that bad. Fleet Foxes were unreal, Ra Ra Riot did their damn thing, The National is never bad. the Yeah Yeah Yeahs straight up killed it. HOVA was better than i expected, but MSTRKRFT was so fucking good. i danced my face off. i was thinking about going on Sunday but never did, and i still don't know if that was the right move or not. heard Sunday was kinda weak?

arctic monkeys were so disappointing. my favorites of the festival had to be coldplay, tokyo police club, we are scientists, cage the elephant, and ra ra riot. sucks that some bands got canceled (steel train, gaslight anthem). see you all next year! hopefully no mud!

The Black Keys owned Day 3. Fucking awesome show. Elbow was a distant second. MGMT and Echo were solid as well. Clips up on band pages shortly.

I have never been a Tool fan but they puton a great live show. It wasnt just the music. It was a combination of the music the lights and the atmosphere.

    agosto 2009
  • mwalkway

Day 2 was was the only day i went for monetary reasons. I camped at blue comet stage so i was in front for the entire time. I was impressed with Cage the Elephant's performance and The Cool Kids were disappointing. Anyone who just saw their performance at APW shouldn't judge them from that. They make awesome music. Arctic Monkeys put on a fun set. It's a shame they played too many new songs and not enough classics. I would've loved to hear Mardy Bum or Fake Tales... Gogol Bordello was probably the best act of the day. Great energy. Crowdsurfing during their first song was a blast and finding my way back to the front for the second was even better. My Bloody Valentine was amazing. I could feel their energy around me. It's a shame all those narrow-minded tool fans flipped them off and booed. By the way, guys, towards the end of their set when they played the same thing for ten minutes. That was them getting back at you for booing them.

  • zoerofl

I wasn't impressed with the Arctic Monkeys set. Gogol Bordello kicked ass, as expected. I'm not a big Tool fan but their performance and visuals were excellent. In the end, I was happy as fuck.

    agosto 2009
  • mrcmldnd

arctic monkeys sucked ass, so did cage the elephant, and the cool kids, but most of all, the tool fans who weren't smart enough to recognize something real when they see it. my bloody valentine just did the favor to them of showing something really beautiful.

    agosto 2009
  • mrshobbs

this was fun, i wish that it hadn't have been so damn muddy though. I only went yesterday but Gogol Bordello and Tool were my favorites.

The Guest drummer that played on Lateralus was Frank Ferrer. He is the current Drummer for Guns N' Roses and a friend of Danny's. I had a chance to speak with him backstage before Tool went on...very nice guy. PS

    agosto 2009
  • dim2192

I think I was the only one in the front during Tool who wasn't stoned, drunk, or on pills. And the only reason I got that close was because I was prob one of the only MBV fans there so I was in the front for them. They were amazing, fuck those idiot Tool fans.

    agosto 2009
  • KenDannedy

Can anyone explain to me why I had to drink my beer in a bloody enclosure? What the hell is that about? It's a festival for christ's sake!

    agosto 2009
  • ShatteredFlame

BTW does anyone remember the name of the guest drummer who played on Lateralus? Frank...something.....what's he from?

    agosto 2009
  • ShatteredFlame

Yeah Tool fans suck. MBV is just to different from the rest of the lineup, their music is suppose to be walls of noises with low vocals, which nobody appreciates. And lol @ close-minded Tool fans saying "we need vocals", it's sad that they will never be able to appreciate a post-rock band. But either way Tool was amazing, Danny Carrey's drumming was phenomenal and nice visuals and stuff. Only thing that sucked was how low Maynard's vocals were (Same with MBV though). Black Gold, Gogol Bordello, Trail of Dead(lol @ fuck ups), and White Rabbits were all impressive. St. Vincent and Arctic Monkeys were cool. Tim & Eric was lmao retarded. The Cool Kids sucked but that guy in the crowd holding up that giraffe was hilarious XD. Day was fun :D

@ heroincrumpets. I completely agree. I was floored by the disrespect they were showing. I have videos from YYYs, Jay-Z, Arctic Monkeys and My Bloody Valentine up on youtube. I'll post links later.
