Fri 6 Feb – Lykke Li, Wildbirds & Peacedrums
Although I am a fan of Lykke Li, this isn't a show I was neccessarily pumped to see. Until I watched this: http://www.vimeo.com/1857259
I still had reservations about the show being a bit sleepy, but it's been a quiet winter concert season and I was itching to see some live music.
The opening act Wildbirds & Peacedrums were a two piece act. Singer and drummer only, but with a pretty full sound considering. Their opening track really caught my attention but they didn't hold me 100% throughout their set. It was argued that an addition of brass would really round out their sound. I enjoyed the singer's energy though, and her primal semi-primal yelping which I'm sure was half improvised. But any band with unique percussion will get my respect.
When I go to the washroom I find the "Ladie's" sign and proceed in to the appropriate facilities. Oh... but what's this? Urinals? Hmm. Push open a seemingly empty stall and well, hello - a pissing drunken man. …
