From the Denver Post REverb Blog posted Dec 17th by Billy Thieme
"Opening for Mercury Rev was English export The Duke Spirit, a band reminiscent of the best of late ‘80s and early ‘90s bands like Pixies and The Jesus & Mary Chain — and so much more. Led by the explosive and super-seductive Liela Moss, the band spewed out a thick, loud, grinding sound with a decidedly strong blues/rock influence that threatened to drown her out. No chance of that, though. Moss serves up a vocal rock assault pulled straight out of the school of Chrissie Hynde with the soulful power of Dusty Springfield and the smokey tone of Hope Sandoval — with just a touch of the makes-me-feel-dirty sexiness of Divinyls’ Christina Amphlett. This crew has built an addictive sound that’s going to be more and more hard to miss over the next year."
That pretty much says it all. Great show and great review. Go to http://blogs.denverpost. …
