Red. Curtains. Chandeliers. Why, we are at the El Rey Theater! If you have not been yet, it’s a great venue and architecturally, a must-see. It was a nice back drop for Seattle-based male quintet, Fleet Foxes, who debuted for two nights at the El Rey. And both nights were sold-out! That’s quite impressive. If that can’t attest to their increasing popularity, then I don’t know what will. They have a number of sold-out shows across the nation before they embark on a European tour and ending up in Australia before the year is over. They’re #11 on the UK chart!

So, what’s the deal with Fleet Foxes anyway? Well, besides being big fans of Burt’s Bees products and being comedians on stage, Fleet Foxes are great harmonizers. Lead vocalist and guitarist, Robin Pecknold, is backed by his band members in a collaboration that would parallel a church gospel. Check out their track “Mykonos” off their first EP Sun Giant (Sub Pop) to hear what I mean. Fleet Foxes covered most, if not all, from their newest, self-titled release, Fleet Foxes (Sub Pop and Bella Union).

Fleet Foxes are like singing story books, weaving thematic stories of love, family, and travel, but still leaving room for the imagination. Their music is simply beautiful, powerful, and almost fragile at the same time, but don’t take my word for it. Have a listen. http://www.myspace.com/fleetfoxes
