Fri 10 Oct – Sunn O))), John Wiese, Eagle Twin

This was defiantly the loudest show I've ever been too. The show got moved to a old shabby theatre that oddly worked wonderfully with Sunn O))).

I got to the theatre at around 8:00 PM. I got a "Hey, nice Earth shirt" when I was waiting in line. I knew I was going to get some remark for it.
Later I met with my friend, a fellow last.fm-er Janketastic and waited for another hour or so.

When we got inside I picked up a Sunn t-shirt which was a special Grimmrobe tour shirt. Very nice design on the back with the tour dates.

John Wiese didn't get as much time as he deserved. He only got to play for around 20 minutes. He wasn't the most interesting noise artist to listen to but he deserved at least 30 minutes. He didn't really mind how little time he got though. He lives in LA so I guess he was mainly there to see Sunn O)))

The following act was Eagle Twin. They are virtually unknown.
I kind of thought of them as a more stoner rock version of Neurosis in both lyrics and guitar tone/style.
For a band that no one has ever heard of, they were really good! I was pretty impressed by them. Plus the band is only a duo.
Everyone was very friendly and some were headbanging but everyone was restless because they were there for Sunn O)))

A little after the clock struck midnight, Sunn O))) went on stage.
I was amazed at their physical appearance. Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley looked absolutely menacing in their black robes and beautiful Les Pauls. And there was three full stack of amps per member on stage.

Sunn O))) live is just absolutely mindblowing and an experience you need to hear yourself. Most of the set I just put my hands on the stage and let the waves of sound travel throughout my whole body. The show sort of felt like being reborn or made anew. It felt like they were playing for hours and hours. But oddly enough, their set never made me bored at all. The raw power of sound is devastating at a Sunn O))) show.
You do not know what a loud concert feels like before you see them.

Near the end of the show Greg and Stephen put their guitars up in the air and let the vibrations shake everything in the room, obliterating everything in their path.

At the last seconds of the show the two men gave each other a hug and gave grins signifying the 10 year anniversary of the band that is, Sunn O))).
Today, Stephen told me that was one of the best shows they have ever had.

One of the best shows I've ever seen too!
