Wed 27 Aug – Gnarls Barkley, Cloud Cult
This concert left me with one clear thought: No one who attended this show was a hardcore Gnarls Barkley fan. There was no energy in the crowd so much so that a bunch of us just sat there and observed from a distance, nodding our heads occasionally and smiling at Cee-Lo's cursing and slurring (much like Amy Winehouse with Charlotte Church). Cloud Cult opened up the night, which I had been truly looking forward to, but their set felt strangely devoid of emotion and the best part of Journey of the Featherless (the instrumental last 30 seconds) was completely cut out of the set. The show had some highlights, like the Gnarls Barkley cover of Radiohead's Reckoner, but mostly it was just so-so. Plus, it was raining. The Flaming Lips put on a show worth standing in the rain late into the night for, but the fireworks for this show were more impressive than the acts. And that's not saying much at all.
