the shows at the tour went on got better and better. I think it was probably just a matter of loosening up and getting used to being in front of all these fucking people. New stuff is fantastic. I know I'm pretty biased- but so are all y'all. Cause this is a Folds comm. So you should be a fan if you're reading this. Overall for the tour the sets were short. For Ben shows at least. Ranging in the low 20s instead of SUPERMAN powers of nearly 30 songs that I've seen in my day... these were only my 16, 17, 18, and 19th Folds shows. ONLY. And don't think I would have done all four if it hadn't been for new tunes. Otherwise it would have been; trusted, bastard, you to thank, gone.... etc..... again. but there is new music. which is such a good thing!
Speaking of losing things in Indiana. Somehow or the other I lost my handwritten setlist. I put it in my pocket after talking to PA-Steve, and not in my pocket by the time we got to Chicago. BAH. But. I do know what songs were played in a guess of an order. If they don't have a number, I'm not quite sure where they fit, but they should all be in the general right locale.
(Pictures will be coming if I can find out where my family keeps their USB cables....)

The Bitch Went Nutz (which has this hilarious new part, which I think makes the song so much better. lightens it a lot. it's quite humorous now. much more like I would expect out of ben. i've got video of the additions, and it makes the "Ben's a Douche" part make so so SO much more sense.)

Bitches Ain't Shit
Not the Same
'Twas a good show. The outro from Narcolepsy was pretty spectacular. It keeps getting bigger and better. And. It's still fun. Someone said on the other thread that it's getting cliche. I'd say that in a heart beat about Bitches Ain't Shit (cause I wish that song would die, die, die, die, die, die-die-die -avett brothers anyone?) There were some other interesting things observed at this show. SOLD OUT the fucking Elliott Hall of Music. 6000+ tickets for Ben Folds headlining. WHAT THE HELL? When did Ben get famous? Did you all see how MUCH money the scalpers are making this tour? Shit.
March 1, 2008. University of Chicago.
This venue held 980 people or so. Talk about a difference. The atmosphere in a room like that is just, simply, better. I love standing only shows. Fuck chairs. Who need them?
Eef was great every night, and the UoC crowd liked him best out of all four nights. Plus he did Jews for Jesus Blues for Mel three nights in a row. And the new stuff is great from him too. There's this song about a guy named Mike Zwinowski (don't quote me on that spelling at ALL) where he covers the chorus of Brick. HA. HA. Stellar.
So in between Eef and Ben, Tambo Man (who's name is APPARENTLY a secret. lame. you hear that, lame lame lame!) comes to put out the set lists. And just walks up to me and hands me one. Whatever. First "real" set list I've ever procured myself, of Ben's that is. (Eisley's look cooler. but that's probably cause they have girls in their band and make them pretty) But straight from the first number it was wrong. So I took notes all over it.

9. Annie Waits (with an awesome Animal Collective-y jam on it. WAIT till you see my pictures of this silly incident)
10. The Bitch Went Nutz (Ben explained to us that he wants this Zen Master-like voice to do a voice over before this explaining that when relationship fails men and women have different reasons for why relationship fail. women say things like; man can't commit. man became abusive. some say man is douche. but men all have the same reason..... and then they break out the song. It's good. And I enjoy the revision of the song a lot, the WHY DO THEY ALL GO? x127309845 is good. and the little Ben & Sam banter.)

Encore:
22. Bitches Ain't Shit.
This is the night that we first really talked to Jared and Sam (Ben was anti-social all tour long). This is when we found out that You Don't Know Me has changed AGAIN. And that whoever wrote the song Ben's responding too is so unheard of we don't know them (or they don't want to let us know..... ) but that it's definitely not Carrie Underwood. Which I always thought was a stupid ass idea. But there you have it.

This could well have been the best show of the four. The Audience was into it more. NOTE. My first show ever without Bastard. Talking to Sam after the show he said he thinks it was his first show not playing it. I did miss Brainwashed though. Then driving back from Iowa City to wave-town was terrible. TERRRRRRRIBLE. I mean, Mel got to see, pretty much a white out, while en route. I get scared driving in that shit.
March 3, 2008. Luther College. Decorah, IA
Now, I could be biased cause I go to Wartburg, but. WORST AUDIENCE EVER. They took every advantage to sit possible. And then complained to the event staff that there were people (us) standing in front of them. Fuck that shit. I do not sit at a folds show. Especially during Narcolespy? What the fuck is that? Luckiest? I can understand that, should sit in protest. Not really. I couldn't sit. No way. I had flash backs of people complaining to me about these girls standing during Ben's show at Summerfest. I was terrible about it. I told them that "they needed to sit" until I left. And I wouldn't be coming back to check. Cause, unthinkable! Unthinkable. For shame luther college, for shame. there's a reason I didn't go there. haha. tho, ben, jared and sam were all decked out in Luther apparel (the school gave it to them) "gremlin" yeeesss. I don't know if there were any other wartburg kids there. ANYWAY. Set list.

ENCORE:
23. Bitches Ain't Shit. (which we left during, cause we thought we'd found Ben's escape route. But we're pretty sure security saw all five of us, and rerouted him. BAH)
Talked to Jared and Sam for awhile after this show too. And I talked to Leo about industry stuff for a bit too long, cause then it was time to hit the road. AND CUE way too fucking long drive from Decorah to Milwaukee to get Mel on a plane by 6 AM. We made it just fine. But. BAH. Had to stop and get gas, and the tank only pumped me $0.08 worth. I CAN'T Wait to see that on my statement. We did find a pump that actually pumped a couple blocks later in Prarie du Chien...
All in all. Lots of fun. And better than reading the phone book, any day
