You go to concerts to have an experience and to be immersed in the music. The Radiohead show on Saturday night was great, but a few things conspired to not make it completely brilliant: sunlight, screens and sound.

This would have been a completely different gig had Radiohead hit the stage at 10PM in darkness. The lighting was lost in the daylight and it didn't help that the screens to the left and the right of the stage weren't working well and were shut down halfway through the show.

The sound mix was fab and crystal clear, but when you can hear the conversations going on around you, the music just isn't loud enough. I want to feel the music ripple through my body, as well as hear it.

The setlist was solid. 15 Step was the perfect opener, and as expected, the boys played every track but one from In Rainbows. Slower numbers like Pyramid Song stood out and the first set closed strong with There There. For me, both encores were easily the best part of show, and it was getting darker outside. …
  • All mixed up

I realised this year that I have been making holiday mixes for 19 years. These days I'm beginning to wonder how to determine the official length of a mix. In the good old days, it was the length of a 90-minute cassette, and even this year, I pressed CDs, so the playlist remains the length of an audio CD.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the mix next year, I hope to do a "Best Of" all previous mixes. My Dad is probably the only person to actually have all 19 mixes, so it's up to him to send me a transcribed list of tracks.

    Here is the '07 mix:

"My Sword Hand's Anger" - Apostle Of Hustle
Since becoming a huge fan of Broken Social Scene, I've been turning to a lot of other Arts & Crafts label acts, which is reflected in this year's mix. National Anthem of Nowhere was easily one of my favourite albums of the year. The title track is available as a free download.

Stay On The Ride - Patty Griffin
I've always been a sucker for great female folk acts…
