The Mudd club isn’t that easy to find, resulting in indiekids wandering up and down Grosse Hamburgerstrasse, tickets in their hands, looking like question marks. Inside, getting the staff’s attention in the long bar proved to be just as hard this evening, but they kind of made up for it by serving some kind of shot for free at one point. Nice. The New Pornographers opened with “All the things that go…”, and the whole set was built around the new album, adding a handful of classics from their past. Highlights from the new album were “My rights versus yours” and “Mutiny, I promise you” (although, the latter sounded even better in Oslo the following night, where they also got the lyrics right). Funny how Carl always makes apologies for the shape they’re in (even though I couldn’t tell): In Berlin and Oslo he blamed the jetlag; last time I saw them, they had a giant, collective hang-over (but back then, btw, anyone could tell). …
