Bluntly put, I did not really care for the new arrangement of "Disintegration Loop 1.1". In the program notes, Maxim Moston stated his intention of the arrangement (still not sure of the actual arranger) was to emulate "the dissolution of [the musical idea of falling to pieces and dissolving into silence], and to harness the instincts of the musicians to collectively feel a slight hesitation as it evolved into a pause, and that into a fermata, and that into a rest." He did these things, but it sounded as if the performers could not deny the instinct to stay together as they slowly phased out from each other and dropped out. The main context of disintegration in Basinski's original recording is the fascination that comes from the natural decay of the recording: the tape hiss and static losing the coherence of the composition. Moston's arrangement just felt contrived until the latter half of the performance. That ~5 minutes of silence was a great moment to bask in the afterglow of it all

I was very lucky to get in at the last minute, as the museum guards explicitly stated that there would be no seating available (as in actual seats around the chamber orchestra and temple proximity) therefore no one else should be let in--by account of whoever-was-in-charge's ridiculous logic--however, there was plenty of space surrounding the temple's moat, and we were let in to sit ad lib against the perimeter of the exhibit. To be honest, where I was situated (against the back wall of the exhibit) it was the best spot to listen, as the music took advantage of the acoustics of the exhibit that created such a pleasing reverberated sound. I wonder if the engineers were able to pick up these nuances in their recordings.
