Charles Bradley is simply the best, most exciting new soul artist to appear on the scene in many years. Bradley was “discovered” after moving back home to Brooklyn in his 50’s, by the Dap-Kings Gabe Roth, while doing his James Brown routine in a Bed-Stuy bar. But his own original songs, on the recent No Time For Dreaming LP, with Daptone Records incomparable Menahan Street Band, take this music well beyond the sphere of mimicry, and deliver some of the most emotional, heartfelt songs we’ve heard in years. Charles Bradley & the Menahan Street Band will be joined by one of NYC most interesting MCs, Beans (of the Anti-Pop Consortium), and DJ Todd-O-Phonic Todd.
