• Postcards from KOKO - Beirut, London, June 26

Finally saw Beirut (en masse) after last year's letdown at the Luminaire, when young Zach had exhausted himself with all that trumpet blowing in Europe. (A night which turned out to be anything but a disappointment but more on that here.) KOKO was packed to the rafters and the atmosphere was convivial, if a little... sober (relatively speaking). Beirut is late night drinking music, and neither them nor us were quite drunk enough for my liking. But we all had a splendid time - check out most of Elephant Gun.

Gulag Orkestar formed the bulk of the set. Caught a few tunes that I sensed I will be listening to a lot in coming months but nothing sounded particularly different... more of their wondrous noise. Polished - no, wonderful - yes. Zach had his whiskey or bourbon or whatever it is he likes to drink on stage, and was in a fine mood, laughing his cheeky laugh and seeming quite pleased with himself. There was banter and second takes and singing along - had sore arm muscles by the end from all the raised-hand clapping and finger clicking. Bought kiff yellow t-shirt.

Anyone got any more info, set list or detail on the new songs, that would be cool. Oh for a lock in with Beirut...
