Ninja Tune are proud to present a highlight of their 20th anniversary celebrations by inviting back Jason Swinscoe’s The Cinematic Orchestra three years on from their last triumphant show at the Royal Albert Hall. But this being the 20th anniversary of Ninja Tune we have something a little extra special - The London Metropolitan Orchestra plus electronic music legend Amon Tobin presenting a one-off orchestral performance AND the prodigious Dorian Concept.

The London Metropolitan Orchestra worked with The Cinematic Orchestra on the score for the movie “Crimson Wing” and performed with them at the Roundhouse for the films “Entr’acte” and “Manhatta.” This growing collaboration will reach its head at the Royal Albert Hall, where TCO and LMO will combine to offer reinterpreatations from across the whole of the Cinematic’s catalogue.

In addition Amon Tobin has been working with the London Metropolitan Orchestra to present a set of some of his classic material placed in an orchestral setting - a process that we’re sure is going to yield exciting results.

Dorian Concept is one of the most exciting producer/musicians currently working in electronic music, his fusion of jazz, electronics, rave etc is as exciting as it is unique. His set for this Royal Albert Hall show will be with an ensemble including The Cinematic Orchestra’s saxophonist Tom Chant and members of the LMO.

This gig could have done with a lot more beats. I enjoyed it, but I go to classical concerts at the RAH fairly often so I wasn't so blown away by the venue or the orchestral leanings (you want to be impressed? See Berlioz's Te Deum with the organ at full blast, huge orchestra and a choir of 200 people :-P). I expected to be grooving along for most of the evening but there were only a few moments like that, mostly towards the end of CO's set. Bit underwhelmed...

I have to agree with the points made by NR_ME. Having been there a couple of years ago for the recording of 'Live At The Royal Albert Hall', I thought the acoustics, which are normally perfect in the RAH were below expected standards. I still really enjoyed the gig but wish I could have heard the vocals with more clarity, this would have enhanced the experience. All in all it was great but feel a little disappointed.

I have to say, I love TCO but this gig wasn't great imo, I've seen them twice before and both were brilliant. This suffered from very bad mixing, the bass and effects drowned out the other instruments and the vocals were barely audible at points. One of the issues appeared to be that Mr Swinscoe had a mixer in front of him which he used to turn up the effects to the detriment of all else. Highlights were definitely Breathe and the appearance of Patrick Watson whom I got to talk to randomly outside which was just amazing as I think he's brilliant. I thought the Amon Tobin translation was very good though I may have been mentally interpolating too.

This was one of the best gigs I've been to - something about this venue too that makes it so special. I can't get over how beautiful it was, how emotional I felt as we walked away at the end. Truly stunning music and musicianship. When will they play again???

What a night! I missed the previous Royal Albert Hall gig but bought the live album which, alone, is amazing. But seeing it for myself, I sat in awe throughout the whole concert. I've seen Cinematic before but never with the orchestra & I found that balance of CO's free-flowing music vs the contained but totally absorbing orchestral components to be perfect. Swinscoe's masterful direction, the band's solid performances (I loved watching the drummer) & the wonderful LMO made for some spine-tingling moments. Add to that the incredible voices of the singers & Patrick Watson (who did a beautiful piano rendition of To Build A Home) & those that went must agree, we couldn't have asked for much more. Well, Lou Rhodes singing 'Time and Space' would have been nice but sadly it wasn't to be. Also absent was Amon Tobin, from the bill, but his orchestral translations spoke volumes for him. Dorian Concept were worthy players, building up the mood & joining up the playlist nicely. Truly fantastic.
