The Very Best at Falling & Laughing
The Very Best
“Africa, so much to answer for!”

Eureka! Finally, the band with the unusually context-apropriate name ‘The Very best’ are coming here.
Eureka! This years warmest music right when Sweden is at its coldest, it almost sounds like a dream but december 11th is a holiday in the calendar, a holiday marking that this year’s most jovial hype, afroindie, is making its mark at Debaser Slussen, represented by the absolutely sharpest of the genre. Yes, almost ambassadors even.
Well, admittedly it was actually Vampire Weekend who kickstarted the afro wheels—if we’re sticking to the present—and if they were New York-cool and maybe not quite the real deal, then after came The Very best doing music which is a lot more real Fela Kuti and some actual african influence rather tha yet another nod towards Paul Simons “Graceland”. Lead by singer Esau Mwamwaya, born in Malawi, now Londoner who also is in producer duo Radioclit, they have charmed all and everything. They began with sneaking out a mixtape and soon things got into motion with remixes, covers and collaborations with a umber of big names, where the most logical was the one with Vampire Weekend. The most phenomenal track on the album debut is the title track ‘Warm Heart of Africa’, on which Vampire Weekends singer Ezra Koenig is featured. That track is crazy good and tops everything else I’ve heard tis year. On ‘Rain dance’ they’ve got M.I.A in front of the mic, and they’e like made for eachother. The entire album is one long rhythm fest and I can only imagine how intimate and sweaty it’s going to be at Slussen this night.
Behind the record plates we’ll be putting the final touches on the evening, starting at John Coltranes ‘Africa’ (från 1961!) who was obviously decades before the afro enthusiasts in the modern world of pop. Surely we’ll play Amadou & Mariams astonishing ‘Africa’ to, but foremost we’ll be dancing like never before to the Very best!
Djs will be Terry, Miriam and Tobias, the fantastic three behind the club Falling & Laughing. And in DFB the club High Life, normally residing at Strand, will visit us, playing exotic and danceable tunes.indie
