I don't know for certain, but my guess would've been a health and safety thing? I think the fire curtain thing was pretty far back, and presumably most of the equipment has to be set up behind it just in case something caught fire and it needed to be lowered so maybe that was why? Either that or they're just cruel :P

I've been following John Mayer since I heard Room For Squares back in 2001 and have been going to his London gigs ever since. Jan 18th at the Hammersmith Apollo was a blistering ride through John's 4 studio album catalogue as well as highlight covers from some of his favourites including the Jackson Five and Tom Petty. Monstrous jamming sessions with the world-class musicians he surrounds himself on stage with take his music to another level. My only dislike of John and what he's become is his constant need for celebrity and engagement in celebrity culture, the Hollywood lifestyle and the blurring of lines between his music and what should be kept private. Some of his ranting during the gig lasted longer than necessary and covered areas I'd rather not associate with John Mayer the musician and leave unread in the pages of Us Weekly.

Damn, wish I could've gone to this. Why are people complaining? Last time he did a solo gig over here, it was at Brixton Academy (horrible venue for his music)! The Apollo is a fantastic venue. And it's John Mayer, he'll never play a smaller venue, but be glad his tour management haven't booked him in at Wembley Arena yet!

The apollo isn't a huge venue and I can guarantee he'll be good there. Still, I would have much rather seen him in a small club and would have paid twice as much to see him doing that.
