L.L. Bean Free Concert Series: The Wallflowers and Wild Light
The Wallflowers: As part of the mid-’90s revival of roots-rock, the Wallflowers held a special connection to one of the original inspirations: vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Jakob Dylan.
Though he is the son of a legend, Jakob’s similarities to his father are occasional — in fact, the Wallflowers are more influenced by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers than original ’60s folk-rock, though lyrically, Jakob remains a close companion to the original Dylan.
Wild Light: Although the members of New Hampshire indie rock outfit Wild Light first got together in high school, it wasn’t until after college that the three were able to devote full and undivided attention to the project, which got going again in 2005. Members Tim Kyle, Seth Pitman, Jordan Alexander, and Seth Kasper began working on music in the basement of a shared house before taking their sound to the people. The buzz built up by the band soon led to a high-profile opening spot for LCD Soundsystem and the highly popular Arcade Fire. Surely helped by the fact that Wild Light’s Tim Kyle once featured in the Arcade lineup, Wild Light’s successful performance helped land them an opportunity to open for Arcade Fire on their subsequent European tour. In late 2007, Wild Light released their first EP, a self-titled affair. In 2008 the band would continue its run of well-received live shows, not to mention a trip to Los Angeles to begin work on what was to be its debut full-length. Adult Nights, which was produced by Rob Schnapf, arrived in spring 2009.
