Last appearing in Philadelphia July 12th of 2006 alongside Acid House Kings (another great band featuring Johan Angergard) and Brown Recluse (go Herbie go!) at the now-defunct Kensington South Forum, THE LEGENDS take their cues from tried and true musical touchstones like New Order, Felt, The Feelies and Jesus and Mary Chain and present them all wrapped up in the immaculate package only a Swedish pop band could. The new album is called Over and Over and the noisy new single is called “Seconds Away”. Highly recommended listening from
all of us.
And for the rest of the night —
No fake D.I.Y. here. Only thee finest in sing-a-long indiepop, upper terrace oi! anthems, dynamite soul classics and anthemic punk rock. an entire night dedicated to shaven heads, anoraks, fixing up, looking sharp and chants of A.C.A.B.
But yeah, expect to hear what you’d expect to hear. That is: a bit of Sham 69, a bit of Heavenly, a smattering of sarah records recording artists, some Vanilla Muffins, a Cock Sparrer song or two. Perhaps some Saint Etienne. Then some things from Sweden to glue it all together. You might even hear some brit-pop that sounds a bit too fey or some proto-oi! glam or studio one ska or pub rock. Ya never know. Contemporary garage-punk? A few chords, a catchy chorus, a strong backbeat. Word is on the street: that’s all that it takes to be a legend. You get the idea. Calvin Johnson is (still) innocent, OK!
