This is my fourth Muse gig in Helsinki but it's the first one to leave me with mixed feelings. Why so? It's hard to explain. In general there was nothing wrong with anything. The show was awesome, the stage set was amazing and the setlist was mostly satisfactory. But still, something was missing.
The setlist was well balanced until the show got to the trio "Plug In Baby, Time Is Running Out and Unnatural Selection". At that point of the gig three heavier tracks in a row was a little bit too much. I'm not going to say that which songs should've been played instead because that would be just plain stupid. You never get to hear all your favourite songs on one gig and there's always people who want to hear only the biggest hits so let's leave it there. Just more variety would've been nice.
One of the biggest plusses was that the songs from the new album worked really well live. I mean that's the main reason I came there, to see and hear their new songs performed live. The most upsetting part of the show was the lazy, singalong horror of Unintended. First of all, it didn't quite work in the slot of the setlist. Secondly, you couldn't hear Matt's singing from the drab yodeling of the crowd. Fail.
The sounds and visuals were even better than on the previous tour. It was also nice to see new background videos for songs that were played on the last tour as well. The first impression of the video "towers" was wtf?!? Next tour they'll probably have a hovering space ship stage and rocket backpacks...
All in all it was worth the 50€. Maybe the show would've been more impressing if we had to wait more than only two years since the last time. But then again if you consider how superbly awesome gig they did the last time, it's pretty hard to beat that. These days it takes more to amaze us since the Muse has already done it so often.
